Homeland Security has advice for confronting mass murders: scissors
Posted on: January 31st, 2013
Is your workplace getting shot up by a crazed gunman?
No problem — just grab a pair of scissors and fight back!
That’s some of the helpful advice in a new instructional video from the Department of Homeland Security that was posted on the agency’s Web site just a month after the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
“If you are caught out in the open and cannot conceal yourself or take cover, you might consider trying to overpower the shooter with whatever means are available,” says the narrator in the video, which shows an office worker pulling scissors out of a desk drawer.

GOVERNOR SCOTT'S BUDGET RECOMMENDS $1.2 BILLION TO PROTECT AND RESTORE FLORIDA'S ENVIRONMENT

GOVERNOR SCOTT'S BUDGET RECOMMENDS $1.2 BILLION TO PROTECT AND RESTORE FLORIDA'S ENVIRONMENT
~Funding for Everglades, springs and land conservation~
TALLAHASSEE – Today, Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Herschel T. Vinyard, Jr. applauds Governor Rick Scott’s environmental priorities within his Florida Families First FY2013/2014 budget. The $1.2 billion budget will include support for restoration projects in the Everglades, springs water quality improvements and the purchase of conservation land. The budget places a priority on projects that protect and renew our waterbodies in line with the Department’s emphasis on getting the water right.
“By requesting more than a billion dollars to continue our pursuit of robust environmental protection, Governor Scott clearly understands that the future of Florida depends on its natural resources,” said Secretary Vinyard. “This funding will restore water quality in the Everglades, rejuvenate our springs and provide a clean environment for all Floridians.”
Proposed budget items include:
$60 million to fund the Governor’s Everglades Water Quality Plan and continuing funding for the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan. Governor Scott has doubled the amount of money spent on Everglades Restoration in FY2012/2013. Scott’s leadership turned this historic undertaking into a reality. The plan builds upon a $1.8 billion investment in Everglades water quality improvements. The budget includes design, engineering and construction of flood control projects to enhance water quality and ensure a reliable water supply for southern Floridians and the numerous species that thrive in the area.
$269.5 million for restoring waterways and water supply. This will ensure the future supply by improving on the water quality regulations for springs, lakes, rivers and estuaries. The FY2013/2014 budget commits an increase of $6.5 million for springs restoration. Additionally, the budget will support the practical application of the water quality criteria by endorsing wastewater treatment facility construction, drinking water facility construction, and water quality planning. Under Governor Scott’s leadership, the department doubled the amount of money spent in the previous three fiscal years on the state’s springs and developed more water quality criteria last year than in any year in the last decade.
$75 million for Florida Forever. The budget recommends $50 million in budget authority from the proceeds of the sale of surplus state lands. Governor Scott identified an additional $25 million from General Revenue for the purchase of conservation lands needed for springs protection, military buffering or water resource protection. This investment helps ensure Floridians can enjoy our natural treasures.
$25 million for beach erosion control. This new commitment will help restore and maintain Florida’s sandy beaches that provide a warm welcome to millions of visitors each year. The local governments responsible for the state’s most valuable and recognizable natural resource will benefit from state assistance for beach and dune restoration, beach nourishment, inlet sand bypassing and regional sediment management.
$19 million for state park improvements. This money will provide an opportunity to enhance the amenities throughout Florida’s vast state park system. Governor Scott proposed an increase of $6 million to the FY2012/2013 budget to continue Florida’s tradition of the nation’s best park systems.

Australian Gun Law Update
Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts....
From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia
Hi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the real
figures from Down Under.
It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to
surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own
government, a program costing Australia taxpayers
more than $500 million dollars.
The first year results are now in:
Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,
Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!
In the state of Victoria
alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that
while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not
and criminals still possess their guns!
While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady
decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically
upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed
that their prey is unarmed.
There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and
assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home.
Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public
safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was
expended in 'successfully ridding Australian society of guns....' You
won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or
members of the State Assembly disseminating this information.
The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the
hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control
laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.
Take note Americans, before it's too late!
Will you be one of the sheep to turn yours in?
WHY? You will need it.

John Kerry's nomination as President Barack Obama's new secretary of state sailed through the US Senate on Tuesday, as his fellow senators voted overwhelmingly to confirm him to replace Hillary Clinton as the country's top diplomat.
The vote was 94-3 in favor. The two senators from Texas, John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, and Oklahoma senator James Inhofe, all Republicans, were the only no votes.
Three senators did not vote. Kerry, the senior Democratic senator from Massachusetts, voted "present".
Kerry's easy confirmation had been expected. The Senate agreed to vote quickly after his confirmation hearing last week. The Foreign Relations Committee had voted unanimously by voice vote earlier on Tuesday to back his nomination.
The Senate's approval sets in motion a special election for Kerry's Massachusetts Senate seat. The five-term senator and losing presidential candidate in 2004 is expected to be sworn later this week.
Senator Robert Menendez, chairman of the Foreign Relations committee, said before the roll call that a heavy vote for Kerry would send a "strong message" to the rest of the world that he had the firm backing of the entire United States.
Senator Bob Corker, the top Republican on the Foreign Relations committee, praised Kerry's testimony on Thursday. "I thought that Senator Kerry acquitted himself exceptionally well in the hearings that we had last week," he said on the Senate floor.
Kerry, beaming, was warmly congratulated by his fellow senators after the vote.
At the hearing of the Foreign Affair Committee, which he has chaired for four years, Kerry was visibly moved by applause and praise from his fellow senators.
"I'm honored beyond words," he said, before making brief remarks about the importance of the committee going forward on issues like Middle East peace.
Kerry, who became a US senator 28 years ago, said he will make a final speech on the Senate floor on Wednesday.
"What a privilege to work with you and now to work with you in a different way. I thank you very, very much," Kerry said.

WHILE PRESIDENT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA TAKES THE STAGE AT HIS 2ND INAUGURATION HE TALKS ABOUT OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE EVERYONE GETS THEIR "FAIR SHARE" AND A "FAIR SHOT"....
IN GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIZED HOUSING EVERYWHERE ACROSS AMERICA, PEOPLE ARE SITTING IN THEIR LIVING ROOMS WATCHING THE INAUGURATION ON THEIR BIG SCREEN T.V.'S AND CHEERING HIM ON....
We felt like this was the perfect time to share this IMPORTANT story with you. Recently, our good friend Michael (a local realtor) shared his experience with Leisa and I about an "Obama supporter" he encountered while showing homes to a low income, working family in Pontiac, MI.. We asked him to please write it down so we could share it with you. YOU SHOULD BE SITTING DOWN WHILE READING THIS:
As a Realtor for the past 28 years I thought I’d seen or heard it all… Until now.
I was showing homes in Pontiac, MI. one afternoon recently and showed up at a home at the 4:00 pm time my appointment was scheduled for. After I woke up the homeowner, she let us in and then proceeded to tell my buyers and I that she has already entered into a contract to sell the home on a short-sale. (A short-sale is a sale where the banks accepts less money than is owed on the home). After some chit-chat, she proceeded to tell us that she and her sister (who also lived in the area) were buying each other’s homes via the short-sale process. I mentioned to her that I thought relatives could not be involved in those transactions. She smiled and said "We have two different last names so no one knows the difference".
She went on to tell us that each of them owed over 100K on their homes and were in the process of buying each other’s homes for about 10-15K cash. To top it off, they were each receiving $3,000.00 in government provided relocation assistance at the closing.
My buyers and I were amazed that she was outright admitting to fraud and yet, she continued. She began to tell us that the best part of her scheme was that because they currently were not working that they (both) are now receiving Section 8 Vouchers. I said I thought those were for renters and she said “That’s the best part; me and my sister are going to be renting each other’s homes so we don’t even have to move, and Obama is going to give us each $800.00 a month to pay the rent!” She then picked up a picture she had framed of Obama and did a little happy dance around her living room and while she kissed the picture she was singing "Thank you Obama.... thank you Obama."
So here is the bottom line… Both of these scammers got at least $80,000.00 in debt forgiven, $3,000.00 in cash for relocation (when in fact they did not relocate) and to boot, you and I will now be paying (through our taxes) $1,600.00 in rent for each them each and every month.... perhaps forever!
Is it any wonder why so many people have decided that all they have to do is VOTE for the Democrats and they will be taken care of for life at the expense of the taxpayers? I would not be at all surprised if they are receiving food stamps and whatever other programs are available for anyone who is willing to lie to get assistance.
These women went from working and paying about $900.00 each in mortgage payments to staying home and getting paid $800.00 each per month to live in the same home they had been living in and all they had to do was lie on a few papers. This craziness has to stop! I’m sure this kind of fraud is going on each and every day all across the country and no one wants to touch the subject of entitlements because they might OFFEND someone or lose a vote or two.
By the way... she had an almost new SUV in the driveway, three flat screen TV's and a very nice computer set up in her living room which was furnished entirely with nice leather furniture.
I'TS THE NEW 'AMERICAN WAY'.....
For all of the "do-gooder's" who voted for Obama to help the "less fortunate"....CHEERS....."

After overextending itself in the Middle East for a decade, the United States is now resolved to avoid wars that never end.

Insanity: Obama Sells F-16 Fighter Jets to Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood....O is Truly Anti US & Israel
Dear Supporter:
I'm not sure if giving twenty F-16 fighter jets to Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood is impeachable, insane, or just plain stupid. But that's exactly what Barack Obama has done.
It's unthinkable, but it's true.
Egypt's ruling Muslim Brotherhood -- the very same people who burn our flag, storm our embassy, and who's President is a hateful Muslim extremist - 'gets jets'.
No surprise, Obama thinks Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi is a moderate, but you be the judge.
Egypt's President Morsi:
"Either [you accept] the Zionists and everything they want, or else it is war. This is what these occupiers of the land of Palestine know - these blood-suckers, who attack the Palestinians, these warmongers, the descendants of apes and pigs" (Source: Brietbart).
And here's the salt-in-the-wound, Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood are using OUR tax dollars to buy the F-16's! That's right!
You see, Obama and the Congress send cash infusions of $1.3 billion to Egypt's military every year.
Here's how the New York Times scores it:
"In addition to the $1 billion in assistance, the administration is working with Egypt to provide $375 million in financing and loan guarantees for American financiers who invest in Egypt and a $60 million investment fund for Egyptian businesses. All of that comes on top of $1.3 billion in military aid that the United States provides Egypt each year".
Thankfully, Senator Rand Paul tied-up Washington in knots last September with an amendment to stop this disgusting use of our tax dollars.
Sen. Rand Paul:
"Not one penny more for Libya or Egypt or Pakistan until they act as our allies. Some say we have to keep sending it. Fine, let's send it when they act as our allies. Let's send it when they start behaving as civilized nations and come to their senses" (Source: NBC News).
Unfortunately, Sen. Paul's fellow Senate Republicans caved to the defense lobby, because selling jets is big business. A 'bi-partisan' 81 - 10-vote defeated Sen. Paul's amendment.
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a bipartisan darling in Washington circles, even attacked Sen. Paul.
Sen. Lindsey Graham to the Huffington Post:
"Rand Paul is one nice fellow, but I bet you he's never talked with CIA Director General Petraeus about what would happen if we cut our aid off to Pakistan [, Egypt and Libya]".
And then Sen. Graham hit the campaign trail -- but for the Democrats -- helping Harry Reid keep his senate majority.
In just months, Republican voters will finally get a chance to thank Lindsey Graham.
But what about the F-16s going to Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood?
Congress urgently needs to act.
Sen. Rand Paul wants to stop them.
He's proposing a ban on sending F-16 fighter jets to Egypt and other extremist regimes that hate America.
We need to support Senator Rand Paul to the MAX! Help Us Fight This Insanity with a contribution of $25, $50, $100, or $250. Even if you can chip-in $10, it makes a huge difference.
Our advertising has already generated thousands of citizen petitions.
You've probably already seen one of our ads on Facebook.

We need to generate even more!
And we need to support conservative heroes like Sen. Rand Paul.
Thank you for allowing us to keep you informed on breaking developments from Capitol Hill.
Yours for America,

P.S. - Obama's been called many names from both the political 'right' and 'left'. Add one more: totally insane. It's just nuts to give Egypt's ruling Muslim Brotherhood twenty F-16 fighter jets! But that's exactly what Obama has done - and Congress wrote the check with a whopping $1.3 billion of our money! Help Us Support Senator Rand Paul's Ban on Sending F-16s to Egypt and Other Countries that Hate America!
P.P.S. - Our powerful online ads have already generated nearly 100,000 citizen petitions for impeachment. We Want to Generate Even More!

Possession and carrying [...] Related posts:

People who don’t understand taking responsibility for your own safety often ask me why I wouldn’t just call the police to stop a crime instead of drawing a gun. Well for one, a great police response time would be 1-2 minutes, but most crimes take place in a matter of seconds. Two, police have no [...] Related posts:

The One That Got Away…………….
Daniels - The One That Got Away…………….
Washington Post
Michael Gerson
January 17, 2013
Just before noon on Jan. 14, Mitch Daniels ceased to be governor of Indiana.
By 2 p.m. he was in West Lafayette conducting a meeting as the soon-to-be president of Purdue University. A true Hoosier calls that a promotion. But his elevated new stage is a smaller one. And as national Republicans contemplate the second half of the Obama era, they wonder what might have been.
Daniels pronounces himself “at peace” with his decision not to run for president — the sort of thing a man says after many restless nights. And remaining on the job as governor “allowed me to fulfill a commitment, to get some big stuff done right to the end.”
Daniels was arguably the most ambitious, effective conservative governor in America. He managed to ride a recession that bucked other leaders — balancing a series of budgets without increasing taxes.
He left Indiana with a $500 million yearly surplus and $2 billion in reserves while awarding taxpayers a substantial refund on his way out the door. During eight years in office, he shed 6,800 state government jobs — 19 percent of the total — while improving public services. He passed legislation ending mandatory union dues. He created the largest school choice program for low-income parents in the country. He privatized a toll road and the state lottery, and busted cable monopolies.
In the process, Daniels demonstrated two paradoxes of conservative governance.
First, it often requires a strong executive to encourage limited government.
Second, Daniels demonstrated that a smaller, more focused government can restore the reputation of government. Grasping, ineffective bureaucracies cultivate public disdain. Daniels is a man of libertarian leanings who improved the public standing of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Revenue by making them more efficient and responsive.
“I set out with two faint hopes,” he says. “For a change-averse state to be a leader. And for this to be a less cynical state. Skepticism about big government is as American as can be. But we must never allow skepticism about big government to become contempt for all government.”
Daniels’ parting observations on the state of the Republican Party are broadly consistent with a rising generation of conservative reformers.
On immigration, the GOP needs an approach “that embraces those who are here, not castigates them.” He remains an advocate for a “truce” on social issues — “leaving aside some irreconcilable debates to focus on a few priorities, such as the fiscal crisis” — and notes that most Republicans have implicitly adopted this approach already.
Daniels is just the sort of leader most needed in a Republican revival: an upbeat, tolerant, conviction politician. A surprisingly effective, RV-cruising populist.
Returning quietly to private life after public service is honorable and admirable.
But this doesn’t change one fact. The best Democratic politician in America is about to take his oath as president of the United States.
The best Republican politician will soon be president of Purdue.
