Self-Evident Contradictions: One of the symptoms of psychosis is contradictory ideologies existing in the same “reality” .. as though ‘Up’ and ‘Down’ were the same. Such that “Hate Speech” is defined by the same folks that call others ‘terrorists’ for voicing their opinion at school board hearings. The same folks who label others “Nazis” with impunity. They're making analogies of ‘trespass’ equivalent to worst of wartime atrocities, guilt by association and ‘cancellation’ .. as though these actions were ‘conciliatory’? Where “mostly peaceful” arson and looting get a pass, but praying in front of Planned Parenthood gets prosecution. Today’s Stoic: Life Can Be Confusing & Weird… “It’s tough to be alive now,” the actor Timothée Chalamet recently said. “I think societal collapse is in the air — it smells like it.” It’s one of those lines that got picked up by dozens of media outlets. Because those outlets know it’s one of those headlines people can’t resist clicking on. As the economist Deirdre McCloskey once put it, “For reasons I have never understood, people like to hear that the world is going to hell.” Perhaps you’re one of those people. Perhaps you’re alarmed about the state of the world. Perhaps you’re horrified at the risks and dangers that lurk about—pandemics, political chaos, riots, people at each other’s throats, unprecedented events. Perhaps you’re getting a strong whiff of societal collapse. Certainly the Stoics knew that smell. How could they not? The fall of the Republic. Nero. The Antonine Plague. And yet they kept going. They did not despair. It’s not that they were naive optimists, they just knew that their job always remained the same: Focus on what you control. Do your best. Live with virtue. Real optimists, “bear in mind constantly,” as Marcus Aurelius wrote, “that all of this has happened before. And will happen again—the same plot from beginning to end, the identical staging.” Remember, this is just what it means to live through history. It can be scary. It can be confusing and weird and smelly. The Spanish Flu, The Depression, Watergate years, the Six-Day War, the 1973 oil embargo, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the 2008 Financial Crisis—living through history always has at least a faint smell of collapse. It’s strange to think that we can find optimism in this, but we can. Because when we face challenges with proper Stoicism—with courage, moderation, justice, and wisdom—the odds of a good outcome are in our favor.

You’ve Got to Be Ready! (Remember in November 22/24 & thereafter! You can’t fix Marxist Democratic Socialism! Vote it out of office!) Admiral Hyman Rickover, the father of the nuclear Navy in the United States and an unsung hero in the history of the world, was once asked by a Congressman if he was prepared for the upcoming hearing in which Hyman needed to speak about a number of complex, important issues. "Yes," Rickover replied, "I shaved and put on a clean shirt." Rickover didn’t need to prepare because he was prepared. He wasn’t some figurehead who had to be briefed before answering questions. He knew his science and his department inside out. Because he lived and breathed his work—famously interviewing something like 14,000 college grads himself for various positions over the years. He also personally tested every nuclear submarine during its initial sea trial after construction. His joke about preparing by getting dressed calls to mind an analogy by Marcus Aurelius, who said that a true philosopher is a fighter not a fencer. A fencer has to put on armor and pick up a weapon. A fighter just has to close their fist. That should be our model too. We shouldn’t be cramming the night before a test, or frantically looking for advice once a crisis has arrived. We need to be prepared. We need to be so on top of our work—and the knowledge required—that everything we need is right there, already in our hands and in our heads. If you’re rushing, you’re already too late. If you’re looking for your weapons, you’re already beaten. You gotta know your stuff inside and out. You have to live it and breathe it. You gotta be ready.

An Open Letter to Joe Biden We Are Not Fascists: A Response to Joe Biden’s ‘Soul of a Nation’ Speech in Philadelphia Royce White Sep 3 449 214 Dear Joe, My name is Royce White. I’m an American citizen, born and raised in the 32nd state of the union. I’m a Christian, I am a Black man and yes I am a MAGA Republican. Although given the current state of politics, it may not be fair to call us Republicans at all. There are no Democrats or Republicans anymore, Only Globalists and Nationalists. On this day I am more concerned than ever about the future of this country. Yet for many reasons I feel equally blessed. I don’t believe I could’ve been born or lived in a more fitting time for the way God built me. All the forces of evil, all the spirit of corruption, has coalesced into a megalithic wrecking ball with spikes and an AI guidance system. This evil, this corruption infects all our institutions, starting with the church and then the academies, and our politics downstream from such moral hazard. It has left blood across the entire breadth of our society. While such an outlook is certainly grim, still it provides the circumstance for men with sacred honor and national honor, to stand in testimony of the truth. To bear witness under one of the greatest incentives to remain silent. That incentive isn’t the barrel of a gun or the blade of a knife, but the threat of a government that doubles and triples down on lies. This is where I find myself right at home, at peace and in my natural way. This is the greatest honor I could hope for. The fact that the highest office of the land is entrenched in this set of lies, is just a bonus. Not only do I get to bear witness, but the stakes couldn’t get any higher. You have betrayed the office you currently hold, you have betrayed the oath you took, you have betrayed the American people. You have betrayed America herself. You are not the President of the United States, but a traitor to the republic. Now on national television, under a beautiful night’s sky made to look especially ominous by a dramatic backdrop of red lights, you double down on this treachery and tell the American people that MAGA republicans are domestic terrorists. Artifice! I write this with the full understanding, that given your speech last night, this letter may land me in the crosshairs of the next DOJ witch-hunt. I go forward anyway because the surrendering of our right and need to speak the truth, is the very point where America ceases to be what it was designed to be. Although I find your speech to be dishonest in the most absolute way imaginable, and therefore completely illegitimate, I still feel a sense of obligation to go on the record and reflect a more genuine perspective from someone on our side. Our side being the side of America, not the fictitious MAGA boogeyman you portrayed us as. We are not fascists. We are not terrorists or extremists. We believe in God, family and country. You and your globalist puppeteers don’t believe in God or family, so it’s easy to understand why you don’t believe in having a country. We believe in having a country. We believe in having a nation. That does not make us fascists… In fact, it’s the exact opposite. The nation-state provides an essential identity, which legitimizes our citizenship and thus substantiates our individual rights. These rights are guaranteed by the constitution. They were not given to us by the government. They were gifted to us by the creator. Of which the constitution simply guarantees said rights, while also enshrining the creator as the soul source of them. Albeit, American freedom and God are inextricably linked. Not that people aren’t free to not believe in God or even hate God, but the backbone of American freedom is God. Surely someone in an office such as that of President must understand that. So the christofascism claim constantly made by the liberal establishment and it’s zealots is a nonstarter. Which is expressed in many, if not all, of their counter arguments for feminism, LGBTQism and racism. These grievance politics are the foundation upon which your tyrannical speech rested. All the philosophical and legal fundamentals of America you understand well. This is exactly what you and your co-conspirators mean to undo. What’s ironic, is using words and phrases such as “America, Freedom, Democracy or We The People,” to disguise your desires as anything other than what they truly are… Tyranny. This has always been the plan. This has always been the design — Funnel people into the “hawk-gates” with lies and misinformation, then tell them if they don’t think like the authority of The State, they are un-American. Or even worse still, because you people just can’t help yourselves, you claim that anybody who voted to have a country, is a threat to democracy. The audacity of it is quite awe inspiring. So we’re at war with The State now… Great. I’m glad it’s out in the open so we can get on with it. Personally I don’t like the sit around and wait game that’s been played for generations. And under such circumstances, we do our best to separate the signal from the noise. Setting our sights on the goal of retaining the sovereignty of our nation, citizenship and individual rights. Basically what I’m saying is… you can raid Mar-a-Lago… you can create all the special commissions and committees that you want to prosecute patriots... This isn’t about one man, who you’ve so desperately tried to turn into a scapegoat. This isn’t about one set of ideas. This movement is about the American people making the decision to have a country. Plain and simple. Making the decision to have a nation and that nation be one nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. One Nation! Under God! Donald Trump didn’t choose us… we chose him. We will continue to support him so long as his actions reflect those values. Your cheap tricks against Donald Trump, may work for some, but those people are not your opponent… we are. We always knew your hatred for Donald Trump, was really a hatred harbored for We The People. Manifested most whenever his ability to rally us against you is displayed. However imperfect that rally point may be in your corrupt eyes, it is the rally that you truly despise. Let’s not pretend that the message, coming from a more “palatable” person, would satisfy you and end your rejection of the ideas themselves. It’s the ideas that you hate, not Donald Trump. Your attempt to manufacture a consent amongst the populous, to unconstitutionally and unjustifiably weaponize the office of president and the entire weight of United States federal government against us, is absolutely despicable. It’s exactly why the MAGA movement started in the first place. The impetus toward real tyranny and fascism is coming from you. It will backfire just as it has continued to for quite some time now. The Free People are rising. The lies are becoming more obvious with each passing day. Praise be to God! Make America Great Again, isn’t a call to take this country backwards in race relations. This has been a focal point that you and the liberal establishment media, has consistently tried to sell the American people. As if the only thing in America’s history was racism. What a thing to teach our young people? How anti-American is that? Nobody reasonable in the MAGA movement denies the reality of racism in America’s history. We dispute what political roots that racism stemmed from and the nature of it’s existence today. But never mind that part, because the premise itself tries to draw more focus to race relations, than any other issue on or under the table. As a Black man this offends me Joe. Don’t use my skin color as a way to manipulate and mislead the American people. There are other pertinent issues far greater than racism in this country. Issues that pertain to the entirety of racial demographics, as well as any and all other demographics of American citizens. First I must qualify that the trajectory of America internationally, and our race relations here at home are two separate trajectories. Only a fool would have trouble seeing that. But our society has become foolish around many important issues. Yes, there was a time when Black people were treated as less than. Yes, that was a grave moral error. But it was an error that globalists had a firm hand in — If not a guiding hand. And it’s those same guiding hands that tell Blacks today, the expansion of globalism will yield different results now than it did before. Some of us know the truth, some of remember the score. There was a brief moment when America was the center of manufacturing worldwide. When our sovereignty as a nation was underwritten and insured by our self-sufficiency. In fact, many working class Blacks helped America achieve this prosperity. What we wanted, was to be seen as Americans. What we wanted, was to judged by the content of our character. What we wanted, was the full recognition of our citizenship — Not to give our citizenship away. Why would we want to surrender the blood, sweat and tears of our ancestors, for Uniparty globalists to broker on the international market like pork bellies? Why would we want to trade away the value of the very citizenship we fought to have recognized? What sense would that make? The average Black person may not see the insult or absurdity of it yet, but when they figure it out, the last thing you’ll need to be concerned about is white nationalism. That I can promise you. The issue here is and has always been, our citizenship. The value of that citizenship and any efforts to undermine it. We’re talking about the working class, Joe. Remember us? Remember the little guy? The backbone of this country? To bear witness under one of the greatest incentives to remain silent. Issues that pertain to the entirety of racial demographics, as well as any and all other demographics of American citizens. First I must qualify that the trajectory of America internationally, and our race relations here at home are two separate trajectories. Only a fool would have trouble seeing that. But our society has become foolish around many important issues. Yes, there was a time when Black people were treated as less than. Yes, that was a grave moral error. But it was an error that globalists had a firm hand in — If not a guiding hand. And it’s those same guiding hands that tell Blacks today, the expansion of globalism will yield different results now than it did before. Some of us know the truth, some of remember the score. There was a brief moment when America was the center of manufacturing worldwide. When our sovereignty as a nation was underwritten and insured by our self-sufficiency. In fact, many working class Blacks helped America achieve this prosperity. What we wanted, was to be seen as Americans. What we wanted, was to judged by the content of our character. What we wanted, was the full recognition of our citizenship — Not to give our citizenship away. Why would we want to surrender the blood, sweat and tears of our ancestors, for Uniparty globalists to broker on the international market like pork bellies? Why would we want to trade away the value of the very citizenship we fought to have recognized? What sense would that make? The average Black person may not see the insult or absurdity of it yet, but when they figure it out, the last thing you’ll need to be concerned about is white nationalism. That I can promise you. Teachers Unions Against Teachers and Parents I have a reason to distrust teachers unions (“Charlie Crist Goes All In for Teachers Unions” by Corey DeAngelis, op-ed, Aug. 29). When I was a rookie teacher in the Atlanta Public Schools system, a union representative visited me on my first day. I taught in an “at will” state, but here the union rep had a foothold in the school system. She reminded me that I was in the minority (white and Jewish) and needed union protection in case “something happens” that could end my new career. I thanked her for her visit but told her I was fine. By the end of that day, my department chair asked me into her classroom. She told me a student had come forward to accuse me of saying that there were no black people in the Bible—something I would neither teach nor believe. I asked which student from which period had accused me, but received no answers. I returned to my classroom, and there was that same union representative, waiting to remind me that “things can happen.” I refused to join the union and replied that I had an attorney roommate who would happily represent me if “something happens.” I tell this story to remind Florida voters how teachers unions behave and urge them not to vote for anyone who would have an American Federation of Teachers vice president as his running mate. Mr. DeAngelis rightly questions the wisdom, after Covid, of politicians embracing the teachers unions and opposing school choice. But parents’ anger at the unions and their allies is about much more than school shutdowns and lack of choice. Parents are awakening to a fundamental disagreement over the purpose of education. On one side are those who believe that schooling is an extension of parenting. Parents want their children to develop virtuous character and acquire the skills and knowledge to earn a decent living and be good citizens. Teachers properly act as parents’ agents to achieve these ends, bolstering that which is taught in the home. On the other side are those who believe a class of experts know better than parents do about the values that should be instilled in their children. Teachers are thus expected to enlighten children, often against the supposedly benighted values of their parents. If schools need to keep parents in the dark about what’s being taught, or how their children are using different names and pronouns, so be it. Parents overwhelmingly take the first view and are dismayed to learn how many school officials take the second. Now, they’re flexing their muscles at school-board meetings and the ballot box. Today’s Stoic: Dr. D.T. Suzuki, a 20th century Japanese author who was largely responsible for popularizing Buddhism, Zen, and Shin in the West, was once approached at the end of a dinner party. “How is it, Dr. Suzuki,” the woman asked, “we spend the entire evening asking you questions and nothing is decided.” He looked at her and replied, “That’s why I love philosophy: no one wins.” While the Stoics, notably Cato the Elder, had a visceral disdain for sophistry and debate for debate’s sake, they would have agreed with this premise. Stoicism was not a parlor game, nor was it religious dogma with its absolutism and black and white rules. Stoicism is ultimately a philosophy for life, and life is complicated. It is also a philosophy that embraces the individual, and every individual life is different. That’s why the writings of Seneca don’t fit puzzle perfect with the writings of Marcus Aurelius, which themselves are not perfectly aligned with the teachings of Epictetus, despite the latter’s influence over the former. There is no “winner” or “best” among these equals, there is simply a wide breadth of overlapping wisdom designed for a multitude of situations. Our job is to avail ourselves of this information and put it to use where we can, however it makes sense for the situations in which we find ourselves. What we don’t have time for are pedantic debates about whether so-and-so was a true Stoic or in-fighting about whether this person or that person is continuing the Stoic legacy properly. There are no winners in philosophy, though there certainly are losers. The best person to be, of course, is a user of the philosophical knowledge we have available to us.
