Posted: 09 Mar 2014 10:01 PM PDT El Universal (3-9-14)Translated for Borderland Beat by un vatoAfter members of the Army asked Nazario Moreno to surrender, the Templario leader responded by attacking them, which is why, in responding to the attack, the criminal was killed. After it was disclosed this Sunday that Nazario Moreno, aka "El Chayo", was alleged to have been killed by federal forces, the Mexican Office of Attorney General (PGR: Procuraduria General de la Republica) confirmed the information this afternoon, confirming that the Templario leader was fully identified through his fingerprints, (which were) compared with his voter's credentials and his military service identification. This is what Tomas Ceron, chief of the PGR Criminal Investigation Agency, stated in a press conference. He added that DNA tests will be performed on Moreno's body, as well as physiological identification, the results of which will be disclosed soon. With that, reports that Moreno was killed in 2010 a confrontation with Federal Police in Michoacan are officially discarded. With this, the Federal government has delivered the greatest blow against the criminal organization of "Los Caballeros Templarios", because he was the founder and indoctrinator for the cartel. For his part, in the same press conference, Monte Alejandro Rubio, Executive Secretary of the National Public Security System (SNSP; Sistema Nacional de Seguridad Publica) explained that Moreno's location, 8 miles from Tumbiscatio, was the result of intelligence reports from Mexican agencies. He also explained that, this Sunday, in the early hours, members of the Army and the Navy found Moreno and asked him to surrender, but he responded with gunfire, after which the military troops responded to the attack, in which the criminal was finally killed.
Posted: 10 Mar 2014 02:07 AM PDT Update: A few minutes ago the press office of the Interior Ministry (SG) confirmed a few minutes ago the announcement of the death Nazario Moreno, alias El Chayo, early Sunday in the town of Tumbicastio. He referenced the reported death of the capo in 2010, but said the body was missing. (Since then towns people and autodefensas reported to the government that he was in fact alive.) Also reported was that armed forces located Chayo who initiated a shootout confrontation which ultimately resulted in his death. Fingerprints were used to identify the capo, but DNA studies are also being conducted. The government credits their intelligence for the capture and gave no credit to the autodefensas that have been directing them to Chayo for over a year, and 300 of them were scouts for the operation that located Chayo. Although, the government will take all the credit, it was in fact autodefensas who not only directed the forces to Chayo, who was celebrating his birthday, but it was autodefensas who identified the dead man as Chayo. Autodefensas had reported two years ago Chayo had plastic surgery that included his face and chin.
Earlier: Reports are circulating that a man was killed in the mountains of Michoacán, who is identified as Nazario Moreno González, aka El Chayo, premier leader of Caballeros Templarios, tests are being conducted to confirm identification. The killing took place today in Tumbicastio, the area I wrote about on March 2, regarding an intensive search with autodefensas and federal forces combing the area, in search of El Chayo and La Tuta, premier leaders of Caballeros Templarios. This report followed my report from March 1, that autodefensas had located Chayo at a ranch used as a safe house in Tumbicastio. Other reports indicate it was in Aguililla, which is adjacent to Tumbicastio. The Mexican Marina (navy) were involved in the clash that resulted in the death, absolute confirmation is pending... The government claimed to have killed Chayo in 2010 in a massive shootout in the sierras of Michoacán. Father Goyo confirms the death as being El Chayo, and that he was killed in a shootout in Tumbicastio. It is reported that DNA was taken from Chayo's brother, arrested on February 18, 2014 and is is being compared to the man killed. Autodefensas leaders confirm it is Chayo... Chayo is the author of the code “of ethics” for La Familia Michoacana, the organization of which he founded and operated before is supposed death in 2010. Templarios were a LFM splinter group formed after his “2010 ”death”. Chayo teaches; torture and death of his opponents is "divine justice." The criminal organization recruited its members from drug rehabilitation centers and asked them to stay away from vices and protect "the family unit". In the city of Apatzingán considered stronghold of the Caballeros Templarios, and Chayo is considered by many there a saint and the cartel, a form of religion. The mayor of Apatzingán, Uriel Chavez, is the nephew of the now deceased “El Chayo”. Using the name of the famous Catholic order from the medieval Crusades, Mexico's Caballeros Templarios ( Knights Templar) began as a cult-like splinter group of the feuding La Familia Michoacána drug cartel....continues on following page..The split derived from and internal struggle between Jesús Méndez Vargas, "El Chango Méndez" who moved to take control of La Familia Michoacana. This enraged Plancarte Enrique "Kike" and Servando Gómez Martínez "La Tuta" who decided to form their own organization, and the majority of the group followed. Below is a map I created and posted at the end of February Below is one of the 2010 "death" photos of Chayo. Unseen is the massive leg and groin wound he sustained, which is evident in another photo (I am looking for) It will be interesting how the government reconciles the fact he was listed as killed in 2010 and was not even on the wanted list. Although the 2010 reported death was during the Calderon administration, the Peña administration continued the fallacy, and never denounced it, in spite of the autodefensas federation insistence that he was alive. However, on March 4th, journalist Carlos Loret de Mola reported that "government sources" revealed it had 2 recent photos of Chayo and that he is alive. Other reports offer the leader usually wears all white and rides a white horse through the sierras, appearing as the mythical character he is thought to be by some. There were reports that Chayo had undergone plastic surgery Code of "ethics" written by Chayo in 2006, for the La Familia Michoacana cartel. (Spanish) |

SURPRISE (YEAH RIGHT) Rand Paul wins 2014 CPAC straw poll Posted: 08 Mar 2014 04:06 PM PST I personally believe that the dysfunction of the GOP can be adequately illustrated by considering just two of the potential 2016 candidates for the Presidency of the United States. The first one is Donald Trump, the billionaire bloviator whose specialty is self-promoting bloviating and whose view of reality is so distorted that everything he touches is superb, that is, until you look closer and see that the gold-plating is a very, very thin covering over base metal. The second one is Rand Paul, who I regard as being a small-time grifter who has managed to make it onto the national state by the grace of his father’s organization and a corrupt mainstream media that will cover anyone to attract an audience. I regard Rand Paul and his followers much as one would regard Lyndon LaRouche and his cadre of dedicated young La Rouchies … akin to a cult. Let’s begin with the truth and how to make the straw poll report seem relevant and important … The results … Who voted … Complete results of the The Washington Times/ CPAC 2014 Straw Poll from CPAC.org So why isn’t the mainstream media pointing out that Rand Paul, as his father before him, stacks straw polls with supporters and the results mean little or nothing?
I do not believe the results have anything to do with an honest libertarian messages as I believe the poll is rigged. I am waiting to see how many registrations were purchased by the Rand Paul organization and how organized the “get out the vote” effort was in reality. The ACID test … Who among these potential candidates can raise $1 BILLION dollars, has significant name value, and can carry key states? Bottom line … In spite of the fact that this poll is about “conservatives,” or at least those who talk “conservative,” most of the candidates listed are unsuitable for high office based on their past performance. It is most likely that the real GOP candidate is not even on this list. And, while I would like to see a constitutional conservative elected to high office, it really doesn’t matter who the top dog is as long as the GOP can garner a majority in the House and the Senate. In fact, why are all these people on their self-promotional campaigns rather than helping GOP candidates retain the House and win the Senate in 2014. Or are they so self-centered, egotistical, and narcissistic that they are willing to forgo the heavy lifting in 2014 for a chance at 2016? This is yet another example of the GOP playing “small ball” and preparing to rip itself to shreds in the primaries as the democrats keep campaigning 24/7/365. If the GOP is hoping for an automatic victory based on the anti-Obama sentiment in the country – much like the anti-Bush sentiment that worked for Obama – they are mistaken. The democrats will do or say anything to gain or maintain political power; including subverting the Constitution of the United States and its preeminent institutions such as the Department of Justice, the FBI, and the IRS. It will be a dirty fight and only the best of the worst will prosper. Time to consider your options. -- steve |
Crimea: Putin playing chess, Obama playing marbles and golf! "Strength Trumps Weakness EVERYTIME!!!"
Vladimir Putin is a lucky man. And he’s got three more years of luck to come.
He takes Crimea, and President Obama says it’s not in Russia’s interest, not even strategically clever. Indeed, it's a sign of weakness.
Really? Crimea belonged to Moscow for 200 years. Russia conquered it 20 years before the U.S. acquired Louisiana. Lost it in the humiliation of the 1990s. Putin got it back in about three days without firing a shot.
Now Russia looms over the rest of eastern and southern Ukraine. Putin can take that anytime he wants – if he wants. He has already destabilized the nationalist government in Kiev. Ukraine is now truncated and on the life support of U.S. and European money (much of which – cash for gas – will end up in Putin’s treasury anyway).
Obama says Putin is on the wrong side of history and Secretary of State John Kerry says Putin's is “really 19th-century behavior in the 21st century.”
This must mean that seeking national power, territory, dominion — the driving impulse of nations since Thucydides — is obsolete. As if a calendar change caused a revolution in human nature that transformed the international arena from a Hobbesian struggle for power into a gentleman’s club where violations of territorial integrity just don’t happen.
“That is not 21st-century, G-8, major-nation behavior,” Kerry says. Makes invasion sound like a breach of etiquette – like using the wrong fork at a Beacon Hill dinner party.
How to figure out Obama’s foreign policy? In his first U.N. speech, he says: “No one nation can or should try to dominate another nation.” On what planet? Followed by the assertion that “alignments of nations rooted in the cleavages of a long-gone Cold War” – like NATO? – “make no sense in an interconnected world.”
Putin’s more cynical advisers might have thought such adolescent universalism to be a ruse. But Obama coupled these amazing words with even more amazing actions.
(1) Upon coming into office, he initiated the famous “reset” to undo the “drift” in relations that had occurred during the George W. Bush years. But that drift was largely due to the freezing of relations Bush imposed after Russia’s invasion of Georgia. Obama undid that pushback and wiped the slate clean — demanding nothing in return.

“Yesterday, there was a general meeting of the Council. We agreed to identify and clear out all the criminal element who have infiltrated. Things are going well…. yesterday Tocumbo and Cotija was liberated”.

WIth government help autodefensas to clear criminal infiltrators Posted: 07 Mar 2014 06:45 PM PST Chivis Martínez for Borderland Beat
The above is part of a message from Dr Mireles. He also sent the Nueva Italia photo, taken a couple hours ago. In the photo one can see how well he looks, and much healthier compared to how he appeared when he returned to Michoacán from his therapy. Nueva Italia was liberated on Jan 13, 2014. It appears that the return of Dr. Mireles has stabilized AD and provided the strong leadership needed for the group, and lifted the spirits of citizens. In both Tocumbo (below forming barricade) and Cotija (above) autodefensas arrived in the company of agents of the State Preventive Police, and set up barricades in the road access to the county. Alberto Mendoza Contreras, Cotija municipal mayor confirmed the arrival of autodefensas. Leaders of the self-defense of Michoacán along with the federal government agreed to "clean" their ranks from infiltrators. Spokesmen for the community guards, Dr Manuel Mireles, Estanislao Beltran and Hipólito Mora met with Commissioner of Security, Alfredo Castillo and negotiated help in expelling those who are posing as autodefensas but are in reality criminals or having a criminal past, in order to maintain the moral authority of the group. Other highlights of the meeting: Autodefensas will refrain from entering the municipalities in urban areas (previous agreements was in the reverse, having AD in large urban areas with the government taking on the smaller towns) Autodefensas agreed to share information with the Commission for Security and Integral Development of Michoacán. Autodefensas to remove their barricades, in coordination with federal and state authorities, where they are no longer necessary "because of the presence of federal forces and organized groups themselves” Recognized, was that in the south of Tierra Caliente, "security has improved considerably, because there is an atmosphere of calm and certainty." Agreement for weekly meetings to be conducted between the autodefensas group, and the Commission for Security and Integral Development of Michoacán. The agreements and progress are hoped to result in gradual demobilization. Autodefensas have stated from the onset, their goal was to establish security in Michoacán, with the government conducting their duty in maintaining law and order in the region, and the capture of the seven “heads” of the Caballeros Templarios.Padre Goyo (above in Apatzingán) Padre Goyo announced on Wednesday he was taking a break and leaving to France for a couple of months. Stating he was "Too tired, too angry, it is time to pause", was subsequent to the attempted ouster of the mayor of Apatzingán, Uriel Chavez Mendoza, the nephew of "EL Chayo", premier leader of Caballeros Templarios. After Padre Goyo accused Chavez of being complicit in the disappearance of 300 Apatzingán residents, Chavez shot back accusing Padre Goyo of being a"viejo liar", a pedophile and a drug trafficker. The much respected and loved priest, was enraged and filed a slander lawsuit. I asked about Goyo and was told he remains in Apatzingán at this time. Search Continues Autodefensas have sent 300 members to the sierras to assist in the search from Chayo and La Tuta, they, along with federal forces, have identified the trail of the two maximum leaders of Caballeros Templarios. Federal Police and AD working together..for now Autodefensas and federal police, working together continue making strides against organized crime. As they work together in the sierras, they are executing important arrests on the plaza level. An example is in the photo above, depicting yesterday the moment of the arrest of a plaza chief by federal police and the autodefensas of Yurécuaro. Javier Álvarez was stopped in a residential area, as he approached Churitnzio, a community 15 miles south of La Piedad. His BMW was confiscated (shown in the photo) The detainee is recognized as a plaza chief for Caballeros Templarios. With him was found a book containing records of quota collections and payroll payments. These types of arrests are imperative in disrupting organized crime activities on the regional level, and gathering information as to who the membership consists of, and arrest those members as well.
'Chapo hero worship', is manifested by Mexico's lack of real heroes Posted: 07 Mar 2014 04:29 PM PST Borderland Beat The demonstration in favor of Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera in Sinaloa shows that the cartel boss constructed a social network to protect himself in his zone of greatest influence. It’s also possible that, with the lack of heroes that demonstrate honor and moral integrity, people are seeking options in figures that are tormentors, according to university investigators. “There exists in the social conscience the idea that politicians are worse. That they're full of impunity, and of cruelty... Characters like El Chapo, that come from nothing, that are illiterate, make it so that the people have an option, even if it is as degrading, as degenerate as a leader of a criminal gang.” So thought Raúl Villamil Uriarte, Research Professor from the Metropolitan Autonomous University at Xochimilco. Nevertheless, the doctor of social anthropology thinks the march was arranged by the cartel that is now using civilian society-based strategies to defend an anti-hero. He said that in these protests there is symbolism related to a kind of "subversion against the national symbols that no longer function." El Chapo, he added, embodies a criminal who has killed many people, but who is described by his defenders in Sinaloa "—that part of the population that benefits from the drug trafficking—as a good guy who gives them money, helps them and protects their people. There is a series of contradictions in the idealization and the assimilation of the heroes. But with the state of things in Mexico, the situation is truly interesting, because the idols, the heroes, who should be official figures of moral integrity, decency, and honor, don’t exist." For his part, René Jiménez Ornelas, coordinator for the Unit for Analysis of Social Violence of the Institute for Social Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, considered that the people that went out to protest did it because the boss “gave them work, even if it were just as a lookout, and because going to protest also is going to have some type of payoff, since, according to them, they're defending El Chapo.” He recalled that this hasn't been the only such mobilization, since there were also some in support ofLa Familia Michoacana. "This illustrates how the cartel bosses favor the population that is near them, where they live, where their territory is, because they require a social network that in a sense can shelter and protect them." More than being a benefactor for the locals, he affirmed, El Chapo represents “a type of stability.. he’s giving me work. Just for hiring me as a lookout, he pays me.” The fact that the people said that he had paid them or given them something in exchange speaks “of the great economic power of the cartel. El Chapois in prison, but as for the cartel, they are only bugging it; it already has to have five others to substitute for him; the structure is not being hit.” |
