From MyFoxChicago: Five people were killed and at least 22 more have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since Friday night, authorities said.
The weekend’s most recent fatal shooting happened early Sunday in the Brighton Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. A 19-year-old man was driving a vehicle north about 2:35 a.m. in the 3900 block of South Campbell when someone inside a vehicle driving south began shooting at him, according to Chicago Police. He was struck by multiple bullets before the vehicle with the shooter drove away west. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Cook County medical examiner’s officer could not immediately confirm the death.
Late Saturday night, a man was shot and killed as he drove in the Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side. About 11:25 p.m., the 36-year-old was driving through an intersection in the 11200 block of South Langley when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside fired shots, according to police. He was shot multiple times and attempted to drive away before crashing into parked cars. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner’s office said.
About six hours earlier, a man was killed in a shooting in the Brainerd neighborhood on the South Side. Nahmar T. Holmes, 23, was standing outside his home in the 8900 block of South Justine about 5:20 p.m. when two people walked up and shot him multiple times in the torso, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. Holmes was taken to South Shore Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:39 p.m., authorities said.
Three hours earlier, a man was killed and another wounded in Chicago Lawn on the Southwest Side. About 2 p.m., the pair were sitting in a vehicle in the 3000 block of West 63rd Street when several gunmen walked up and opened fire, police said.
Dominice Hallom, 27, was shot in the head and torso, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:26 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 11300 block of South Forest. The other man, 26, was shot in the leg, arm, torso and buttocks. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
The first fatal shooting of the weekend happened about 11:30 p.m. Friday in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood. Officers on patrol near Division and Maplewood witnessed 18-year-old Louis Rodriguez driving around the block and “engaging a group of males” before he was shot, authorities said. Rodriguez, of the 1300 block of North Oakley, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officers intervened and at least one opened fire, hitting a male, CPD area coordinator Glen Brooks said. He was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening, Brooks said. No officers were hurt.
The weekend’s most recent nonfatal shooting wounded a 15-year-old boy about 3:40 a.m. in the West Englewood neighborhood. The boy was sleeping in a basement bedroom in a house in the 6000 block of South Wood when person fired a bullet that went through the floor and struck him as he slept, police said. He was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where he was in good condition.
At least 20 more people have been shot in other attacks across the city since 10 p.m. Friday.
