The Obama administration’s abuse of power has already been established.
If a FISA document uncovered by House investigators proves to be as bad as all appearances, the prior administration will stand accused of abusing federal law enforcement and intelligence assets in order to sabotage Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
The FISA court, established by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, approves warrantless wiretapping and interception of communications; it is intended to empower federal agencies to prevent foreign powers from engaging in hostile acts against the United States, including espionage and terrorism.
As the FISA Act of 1978, and particularly section 702, cleared a House vote taking place last week and the Senate on Thursday, President Donald Trump has accused FISA of empowering Obama-era agencies to conduct surveillance on his presidential campaign communications.
“‘House votes on controversial FISA ACT today.’ This is the act that may have been used, with the help of the discredited and phony Dossier, to so badly surveil and abuse the Trump Campaign by the previous administration and others?” Trump said in a tweet last week.
Did President Trump know about the existence of the FISA document now in the hands of House investigators? The document allegedly pertains to Fusion GPS’s role obtaining the highly suspect Steele dossier for the Democratic National Committee.
Recently, the former British spy Christopher Steele, the compiler of the Trump dossier, was referred by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Judiciary Subcommittee Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-SC) for criminal investigation.
“The classified report compiled by House Intelligence is deeply troubling and raises serious questions about the upper echelon of the Obama DOJ and Comey FBI as it relates to the so-called collusion investigation,” said Rep. Ron DeSantis.
“The facts contained in this memo are jaw-dropping and demand full transparency. There is no higher priority than the release of this information to preserve our democracy,” said Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL). A House Judiciary Committee member, Rep. Gaetz conducts oversight on the Department of Justice and the FBI.
“I think that this will not end just with firings. I believe there are people who will go to jail,” Gaetz later said on Fox News, referring to senior DOJ and FBI officials. “I think there will be criminal implications here.”
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, agreed with his colleague Rep. Gaetz.
“It is so alarming the American people have to see this,” Jordan told Fox News.
“It’s troubling. It is shocking,” Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) also told Fox News. “Part of me wishes that I didn’t read it because I don’t want to believe that those kinds of things could be happening in this country that I call home and love so much.”
“You think about, ‘is this happening in America or is this the KGB?’ That’s how alarming it is,” commented Rep. Scott Perry (R-VA).
Rep. DeSantis is spearheading a move to get the Top Secret FISA document declassified and available to the public.
“While the report is classified as Top Secret, I believe the select committee should, pursuant to House rules, vote to make the report publicly available as soon as possible. This is a matter of national significance and the American people deserve the truth,” he said.
“Rule X of the House Rules allows the select committee to publicly disclose any information in its possession after a determination by the select committee that the public interest would be served by such disclosure.”
As pointed out by Breitbart News, the declassification would have to clear the House intelligence committee before moving to the desk of President Trump, who would have five days to issue an objection. In the event of an objection, a debate would then take place in the House.
An initiative is gathering momentum on social media to release the documents.
