Here is a thirty-plus foot palm tree with under-hanging dead material ready to spread deadly embers in the wind. If not for the wind direction, burning material from the nearby hill could have easily sent this tree up in flames and spread the destruction far and wide, forcing embers under the eaves of houses and into attics through ventilation grilles. The research strongly supported the general “consensus” of the climate alarmists as the authors’ work independently confirmed that the oceans were warming as previously thought and this information has implications for policy-relevant measurements involving climate change. Abstract The ocean is the main source of thermal inertia in the climate system1. During recent decades, ocean heat uptake has been quantified by using hydrographic temperature measurements and data from the Argo float program, which expanded its coverage after 20072,3. However, these estimates all use the same imperfect ocean dataset and share additional uncertainties resulting from sparse coverage, especially before 20074,5. Here we provide an independent estimate by using measurements of atmospheric oxygen (O2) and carbon dioxide (CO2)—levels of which increase as the ocean warms and releases gases—as a whole-ocean thermometer. We show that the ocean gained 1.33 ± 0.20 × 1022 joules of heat per year between 1991 and 2016, equivalent to a planetary energy imbalance of 0.83 ± 0.11 watts per square metre of Earth’s surface. We also find that the ocean-warming effect that led to the outgassing of O2 and CO2 can be isolated from the direct effects of anthropogenic emissions and CO2 sinks. Our result—which relies on high-precision O2 measurements dating back to 19916—suggests that ocean warming is at the high end of previous estimates, with implications for policy-relevant measurements of the Earth response to climate change, such as climate sensitivity to greenhouse gases7 and the thermal component of sea-level rise8. 2. Keeling said the miscalculation was made when they were calculating their margin of error, which had a larger range (10 to 70 percent) than they initially believed. “Our error margins are too big now to really weigh in on the precise amount of warming that’s going on in the ocean,” Keeling said. “We really muffed the error margins.” Bottom line… The primary reason that this paper was featured in the mainstream media is that it used an independent means to confirm a previous finding and was estimating even greater effects than the previous findings. After the paper is re-worked, the conclusion is likely to affirm the previous research findings but also note that there is a larger estimate of uncertainty associated with these findings. The purpose of this blog entry is three-fold. One, it is a departure from the malignant politics that seem to surround us on a daily basis. Two, it has nothing to do with mass shootings or wildfires. And three, it merely points out that this is the method of science in action. Where research is published for verification, falsification, or suggestions for improvement. Those that found the anomalous calculations are not “deniers” nor are they to be denigrated for their viewpoint. Likewise, the researchers published their work in good faith, and it should be accepted as such. The bottom line is that climate systems are chaotic fluid systems with a multiplicity of known and unknown factors, and to use questionable science to drive public policies and political agendas is wrong. We just do not know what we do not know. All of the speculative results come from imperfect computer modeling, and the underlying hypothesis cannot be tested in any timeframe that would be relevant to five to ten generations. We cannot measure man’s climate input amid nature’s variability. And, to use imprecise or bone-headed hypotheses to restrict man’s freedoms and liberties while engaging in wealth redistribution is wrong. The question that one should ask the researchers is a simple one: if the rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide lags the rise in ocean temperatures, how can carbon dioxide be the cause of global warming? Ranging from alleged misconduct on the part of the officials running the vote tabulation effort to the individuals handling the votes. It is not a laughing matter… not-funny According to a PJ Media report, election recounts rarely swing elections, but when they do, they rarely swing right. In the wake of the recount uproar in Florida’s Broward County and Arizona, there are common themes of ballots mysteriously being “found” in the trunks of cars or delivery trucks and illegal votes getting tallied. Perhaps more disturbing is that despite the rampant evidence of ballot stuffing or other wrongdoing, there appears to be no follow-up with criminal investigation. Lack of reprisal for overt election fraud only encourages more fraud… [Source] Bottom line… How are we going to have honest representation as long as the votes are counted by corrupt individuals pursuing a political agenda? These are criminal acts and so rarely punished. You read about the partisan who voted multiple times, but rarely those who attempt or succeed to manipulate vote counts. Unfortunately, history tends to indicate that the bulk of election fraud is connected with the Democrat Party. Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz, an Obama administration appointee, is scheduled to deliver a report this week on DOJ and FBI abuses during the 2016 campaign cycle. Remember: His last investigation of FBI misconduct advised a criminal referral for fired former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, who allegedly lied to federal investigators. X McCabe and at least a half-dozen other FBI employees quit, retired, were fired or were reassigned as a result of fallout from the politicization of the FBI. Yet, as Barack Obama left office, his chief of staff, Denis McDonough, strangely boasted that the Obama administration "has been historically free of scandal." Obama himself recently concluded of his eight-year tenure, "I didn't have scandals." Those were puzzling assertions, given nearly nonstop scandals during Obama's eight years in office involving the IRS; General Services Administration; Peace Corps; Secret Service; Veterans Affairs; and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, not to mention the Clinton email server scandal, the Benghazi scandal and the 2016 Democratic National Committee email scandal. In 2014, an internal audit revealed that CIA officials had hacked the Senate Intelligence Committee's computers while compiling a report on enhanced interrogation techniques. CIA Director John Brennan had claimed that his agents were not improperly monitoring Senate staff computer files. He was forced to retract his denials and apologize for his prevarication. In 2016, the State Department's inspector general found that Hillary Clinton had never sought approval for her reckless and illegal use of an unsecured private email server. The IG also found that staffers who were worried about national security being compromised by the unsecured server were silenced by other Clinton aides. Still, Obama was right in a way: A scandal does not become a scandal if no one acts on findings of improper behavior. Under former attorneys general Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch, the findings of dozens of IGs were snubbed. That raises the question: What good are inspectors general if a president ignores any illegality and impropriety that they have uncovered? Answer: not much good at all — unless an incoming administration is of a different political party than the outgoing administration. Once that happens in our politicized system, there is a rare interest in not covering up or ignoring a damning IG report, but in acting on it. We may now be experiencing one of those unusual occasions. Soon, various inspector general reports may appear concerning FISA court abuse and improper behavior at the Department of Justice, FBI, CIA and National Security Council during the 2016 campaign cycle. The investigators are, for the most part, Obama appointees, not Trump appointees. At some point, the idea of toothless inspectors general needs to be revisited. Something is terribly wrong when dozens of IGs found wrongdoing, only to object that their efforts were being thwarted by an Obama administration that had appointed most of them — and claimed to be scandal-free. Finding government abuse and doing nothing about it is worse than not finding any at all.
