Odds Favor GOP Gaining Senate Control in 2012

By Sean Trende - September 28, 2011

The Senate and House races are usually undercard matches in presidential years. But 2012 may be different. Republicans are expected to hold the House, and are probably slight favorites to win the White House at this point. If Democrats are going to keep a toehold in Washington, their only hope is retaining the Senate. This is especially true because much of what the Republican Congress will probably focus on in 2013 is spending cuts, which can -- and almost certainly will -- be done through budget reconciliation (which only requires a majority vote).
But the Democrats’ chances of holding the Senate aren’t particularly good. Right now Republicans hold 47 of the 100 seats; if they win the presidency, they would need to pick up three more seats to have a majority. As of today, they are favored to pick up two Democratic seats. Two Republican seats are tossups, along with six Democratic seats. If we assume Democrats pick off one of the two Republican tossups, and that Republican pick off half of the Democratic tossups, Republicans would have a 51-49 majority.
Of course, Senate tossups have tended to break hard toward one party or the other, which suggests that the Republicans have much more upside than Democrats. If Republicans were to sweep the tossups, they would have a 55-45 majority, tying them for their largest advantage since 1928. With a large number of Democrats up for re-election in 2014, many of whom occupy seats in red states, that would probably give Republicans working control of the chamber.

3. We likely will when control of Senate as well.

Ka-CHING!!!!

It has got to be back to FDR the last time that one Party held BOTH Houses of Congress AND the White House!!! (Though I'm just going from 'off the top of my head memory' on that tid-bit.)

REPLIES TO THIS DISCUSSION

Uh, this is 2011 and there are only 3 months left and I don't think there is an election.  There is one in 2012 and I wouldn't count on that happening either.  Those elected would take office in 2013 if that election takes place.  Ask governor Perdue if that is likely or look at what is and has been going on.  But 2011 is not going to happen. Put this stuff out and see if we look stupid?  Yes, we do!
Corrected the one typo...the rest did say 2012.

Eh, there WILL be an election...and it looks like a sweep for the G.O.P. . jmeo.

BUT just because it realistically looks like we can and will win now....ONLY means we need to WORK HARD AND PRAY HARD FOR THAT TO BE A REALITY IN 2012.

BE CONSERVATIVE!
WIN!

Larry:

I believe that LBJ had both houses of congress in the mid 1960s.  That's what brought us The Great Society, the multi-trillion dollar socialist boondoggel that has spawned our current underclass.

And let's not forget that O'Bummer (the black Irishman himself) had both houses for his first two years in orifice, yielding Obamacare.

'' WE '' … wouldn't be having this discussion or this problem if ' WE ' elected Real Americans, like … Lincoln, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Reagan … and yes … Bush ! Instead of self-serving political hacks like … Carter, Clinton … ans yes … Obama !

Take the Supreme Court as an example … most decisions come down … 5-4 … 5-4 … 5-4
WHY ? ….. BIAS PARTY LINE VOTES !

So what is the answer ?

Actually, its pretty simple;

TERM LIMITS … RE-CALLS .. and .. VOTING WITH YOUR BRAIN … NOT YOUR BIAS !

WOULD BE A GOOD START
One thing for sure, being cautiously positive is absolutely necessary !  And work as hard as if we were losing, which we aren't .
Do all we can , and let God do the rest . If it were not for him, we would have been SWAMPED the first 2 years of the marxists reign !

...IS IT REALLY good news?  Yes, it's better than a poke in the eye, but will 2012 be a Republican victory, or a Tea Party victory?

Tom that is the million dollar question....
Never underestimate the Rhino's and the Liberals.  Right now the liberals has the upperhand as they are in charge and have all the stimulus monies that have been dealt out to different corporations and the unions pluse all the votes he has bought through give away programs..
We have got to put the boots on the ground and keep them there for the next 13 and half months..
Tom,

Let's work to make them one and the same. That's what Reagan did FOUR TIMES!

WIN!

ATea Party victory would be a GOP victory and a victory for America. But I suspect the GOP will blow it by trying to compromise with the dumbocrats instead of defeating them. America doesn't need compromise with dumbocrats or RINO's, America needs conservative tea party government if we are to be saved from liberal socialism.
Either one will be better than what we have now.
Tom, I agree, but the liberals are trying everything in their satanic bible of twisted tricks to discredit the Tea Party. We The People need to get bust discrediting them and we need to do it now. We need to prove to the rank and file public that we are the mainstream and that the progressive liberals are the lunatic fringe.
tom dodd;
'' will 2012 be a Republican victory, or a Tea Party victory? ''

Why do you seperate the two ?

Don't they both have simular ... Values and Morals ... unlike that other group ?

Together they are a ... very  LARGE  majority of ............................ Real  Americans !

Together they could and will return America to that .... Shinning  City  On  The  Hill

An America that  ' WE '  Love,  and is Respected  Around  the  World !

God  Bless  Her  and  All  Who  Love  Her

Second American jihadi, Samir Khan, taken out with al Awlaki

Second American jihadi, Samir Khan, taken out with al Awlaki

And we were critical of U.S. officials who let Khan out of the country. Sigh. via Ex-Charlotte man killed in U.S. attack in Yemencharlotteobserver.com
Samir Khan, who left his northeast Charlotte home for Yemen and became editor of an al Qaida-linked web magazine, was among the militants reported killed Friday in a U.S. air strike in Yemen.
Yemen’s Defense Ministry announced that Khan, 25, was killed in the same strike that claimed Anwar al-Awlaki, also an American militant. Al-Awlaki, 40, was considered one of the top figures in the terrorist group’s network.
Khan spent his early years in New York but moved to Charlotte with his family in 2004.
He attended CPCC and wrote a militant blog while a student there. That blog, titled “Inshallahshaheed,” or “a martyr soon if God wills,” was the first of several blogs he edited while living with his parents in northeast Charlotte.
National Public Radio reported a year ago that the FBI was preparing to bring terrorist charges against Khan, although FBI officials in the Charlotte area said they could not comment on the reports.
After moving to Yemen, apparently two or three years ago, he began producing “Inspire,” an English-language magazine for al Qaida. At the time, Khan wrote that he “pledged to wage jihad for the rest of our lives.”
The magazine included articles on how to conduct terrorist attacks in the United States. The most recent edition of the magazine focused on the U.S. media.
U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick has used Khan as an example of the reason she is pushing for tougher anti-terrorism laws in the United States.
U.S. military officials told the Associated Press on Friday that they believe Khan was in the convoy carrying al-Awlaki. That convoy was attacked by the same U.S. Joint Special Operations Command unit that killed Osama bin Laden earlier this year.
Jibril Hough, spokesman for the Islamic Center of Charlotte, told the Observer last year that Khan’s views were widely rejected in the local Muslim community. Hough said Khan was not allowed to speak at any of the major mosques.
Hough also told the Observer that Muslim community leaders, including Khan’s father, met with Khan in late 2007 and early 2008 in an unsuccessful effort to steer him away from supporting terrorism.
“Our counseling didn’t look like it made that great of an impact,” Hough said.
To be a fly on the wall during those impact-less “counseling” sessions.
