I am already reading so many pundits and other talking heads analyzing

the disaster that was this year ' s elections. I am adding my own ten

cents. Here goes:

1. We are outnumbered

We accurately foresaw the enthusiasm, the passion, the commitment, the

determination, and the turnout. Married women, men, independents,

Catholics, evangelicals - they all went for Romney in percentages as

high or higher than the groups which voted for McCain in 2008. It

wasn ' t enough. What we saw in the election on Tuesday was a tipping

point: we are now at a place where there are legitimately fewer

Americans who desire a free republic with a free people than there are

those who think the government should give them stuff. There are fewer

of us who believe in the value of free exchange and free enterprise.

There are fewer of us who do not wish to demonize successful people in

order to justify taking from them. We are outnumbered. For the moment.

It ' s just that simple.

2. It wasn ' t the candidate(s)

Some are already saying, "Romney was the wrong guy"; "He should have

picked Marco Rubio to get Florida/Rob Portman to get Ohio/Chris

Christie to get [someplace else]." With all due respect, these

assessments are incorrect. Romney ran a strategic and well-organized

campaign. Yes, he could have hit harder on Benghazi . But for those who

would have loved that, there are those who would have found it

distasteful. No matter what tactic you could point to that Romney

could have done better, it would have been spun in a way that was

detrimental to his chances. Romney would have been an excellent

president, and Ryan was an inspired choice. No matter who we ran this

year, they would have lost. See #1, above.

3. It ' s the culture, stupid!

We have been trying to fight this battle every four years at the

voting booth. It is long past time we admit that is not where the

battle really is. We abdicated control of the culture - starting back

in the 1960s. And now our largest primary social institutions -

education, the media, Hollywood (entertainment) have become really

nothing more than an assembly line for cranking out reliable little

Leftists. Furthermore, we have allowed the government to undermine the

institutions that instill good character - marriage, the family,

communities, schools, our churches. So, here we are, at least two full

generations later - we are reaping what we have sown. It took nearly

fifty years to get here; it will take another fifty years to get back.

But it starts with the determination to reclaim education, the media,

and the entertainment business. If we fail to do that, we can kiss

every election goodbye from here on out. And much more.

4. America has become a nation of adolescents

The real loser in this election was adulthood: Maturity.

Responsibility. The understanding that liberty must be accompanied by

self-restraint. Obama is a spoiled child, and the behavior and

language of his followers and their advertisements throughout the

campaign makes it clear how many of them are, as well. Romney is a

grown-up. Romney should have won. Those of us who expected him to win

assumed that voters would act like grownups. Because if we were a

nation of grownups, he would have won.

But what did win? Sex. Drugs. Bad language. Bad manners. Vulgarity.

Lies. Cheating. Name-calling. Finger-pointing. Blaming. And

irresponsible spending. This does not bode well. People grow up one of

two ways: either they choose to, or circumstances force them to. The

warnings are all there, whether it is the looming economic disaster,

or the inability of the government to respond to crises like Hurricane

Sandy , or the growing strength and brazenness of our enemies. American

voters stick their fingers in their ears and say, "Lalalalalala, I

can ' t hear you." It is unpleasant to think about the circumstances it

will take to force Americans to grow up. It is even more unpleasant to

think about Obama at the helm when those circumstances arrive.

5. Yes, there is apparently a Vagina Vote

It ' s the subject matter of another column in its entirety to point

out, one by one, all of the inconsistencies and hypocrisies of the

Democrats this year. Suffice it to say that the only "war on women"

was the one waged by the Obama campaign, which sexualized and

objectified women, featuring them dressed up like vulvas at the

Democrat National Convention, appealing to their "lady parts,"

comparing voting to losing your virginity with Obama, trumpeting the

thrills of destroying our children in the womb (and using our

daughters in commercials to do so), and making Catholics pay for their

birth control. For a significant number of women, this was appealing.

It might call into question the wisdom of the Nineteenth Amendment,

but for the fact that large numbers of women (largely married) used

their "lady smarts" instead. Either way, Susan B. Anthony and

Elizabeth Cady Stanton are rolling over in their graves.

6. It ' s not about giving up on "social issues"

No Republican candidate should participate in a debate or go out on

the stump without thorough debate prep and a complete set of talking

points that they stick to. This should start with a good grounding in

biology and a reluctance to purport to know the will of God. (Thank

you, Todd and Richard.)

That said, we do not hold the values we do because they garner votes.

We hold the values we do because we believe that they are time-tested

principles without which a civilized, free and prosperous society is

not possible.

We defend the unborn because we understand that a society which views

some lives as expendable is capable of viewing all lives as

expendable.

We defend family - mothers, fathers, marriage, children - because

history makes it quite clear that societies without intact families

quickly descend into anarchy and barbarism, and we have plenty of

proof of that in our inner cities where marriage is infrequent and

unwed motherhood approaches 80 percent. When Roe v. Wade was decided

in 1973, many thought that the abortion cause was lost. Forty years

later, ultrasound technology has demonstrated the inevitable

connection between science and morality. More Americans than ever

define themselves as "pro-life." What is tragic is that tens of

millions of children have lost their lives while Americans figure out

what should have been obvious before. There is no "giving up" on

social issues. There is only the realization that we have to fight the

battle on other fronts. The truth will win out in the end.

7. Obama does not have a mandate. And he does not need one.

I have to laugh - bitterly - when I read conservative pundits trying

to assure us that Obama "has to know" that he does not have a mandate,

and so he will have to govern from the middle. I don ' t know what

they ' re smoking. Obama does not care that he does not have a mandate.

He does not view himself as being elected (much less re-elected) to

represent individuals. He views himself as having been re-elected to

complete the "fundamental transformation" of America , the basic

structure of which he despises. Expect much more of the same - largely

the complete disregard of the will of half the American public, his

willingness to rule by executive order, and the utter inability of

another divided Congress to rein him in. Stanley Kurtz has it all laid

8. The Corrupt Media is the enemy

Too strong? I don ' t think so. I have been watching the media try to

throw elections since at least the early 1990s. In 2008 and again this

year, we saw the media cravenly cover up for the incompetence and

deceit of this President, while demonizing a good, honorable and

decent man with lies and smears. This is on top of the daily barrage

of insults that conservatives (and by that I mean the electorate, not

the politicians) must endure at the hands of this arrogant bunch of

elitist snobs. Bias is one thing. What we observed with Benghazi was

professional malpractice and fraud. They need to go. Republicans,

Libertarians and other conservatives need

to be prepared to play hardball with the Pravda press from here on

out. And while we are at it, to defend those journalists of whatever

political stripe (Jake Tapper, Sharyl Atkisson, Eli Lake ) who actually

do their jobs. As well as Fox News and talk radio. Because you can

fully expect a re-elected Obama to try to reinstate the Fairness

Doctrine in term 2.

9. Small business and entrepreneurs will be hurt the worst

For all the blather about "Wall Street versus Main Street ," Obama ' s

statist agenda will unquestionably benefit the biggest corporations

which - as with the public sector unions - are in the best position to

make campaign donations, hire lobbyists, and get special exemptions

carved out from Obama ' s health care laws, his environmental

regulations, his labor laws. It will be the small business, the

entrepreneur, and the first-time innovators who will be crushed by

their inability to compete on a level playing field.

10. America is more polarized than ever; and this time it ' s personal

I ' ve been following politics for a long time, and it feels different

this time. Not just for me. I ' ve received messages from other

conservatives who are saying the same thing: there is little to no

tolerance left out there for those who are bringing this country to

its knees - even when they have been our friends. It isn ' t just about

"my guy" versus "your guy." It is my view of America versus your view

of America - a crippled, hemorrhaging, debt-laden, weakened and

dependent America that I want no part of and resent being foisted on

me. I no longer have any patience for stupidity, blindness, or

vulgarity, so with each dumb "tweet" or FB post by one of my happily

lefty comrades, another one bites the dust, for me. Delete. What does

this portend for a divided Congress? I expect that Republicans will be

demoralized and chastened for a short time. But I see them in a bad

position. Americans in general want Congress to work together. But

many do not want Obama ' s policies, and so Republicans who support them

will be toast. Good luck, guys.

11. It ' s possible that America just has to hit rock bottom

I truly believe that most Americans who voted for Obama have no idea

what they are in for. Most simply believe him when he says that all he

really wants is for the rich to pay "a little bit more." So

reasonable! Who could argue with that except a greedy racist?

America is on a horrific bender. Has been for some time now. The

warning signs of our fiscal profligacy and culture of lack of personal

responsibility are everywhere - too many to mention. We need only look

at other countries which have gone the route we are walking now to see

what is in store.

For the past four years - but certainly within the past campaign

season - we have tried to warn Americans. Too many refuse to listen,

even when all of the events that have transpired during Obama ' s

presidency - unemployment, economic stagnation, skyrocketing prices,

the depression of the dollar, the collapse of foreign policy,

Benghazi , hopelessly inept responses to natural disasters - can be

tied directly to Obama ' s statist philosophies, and his decisions.

What that means, I fear, is that they will not see what is coming

until the whole thing collapses. That is what makes me so sad today. I

see the country I love headed toward its own "rock bottom," and I

cannot seem to reach those who are taking it there.

If we cannot regain control of those critical institutions ("that

instill good character - marriage, the family, communities, schools,

our churches"), that Ms. Hollis enumerated, and rekindle the rational,

sane and conservative values they once represented,.....WE ARE DOOMED

TO CONTINUE THIS SLIDE INTO A LEFTIST, PROGRESSIVE, LIBERAL LED DECAY

and ULTIMATE COLLAPSE.

This is very typical of Democrats, "do as I say, not as I do. It's OK for me, but not for you."

Anti-Gun Senator Shoots Intruder

State Senator R.C. Soles (D - NC)

Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of two intruders at his home just outside Tabor City , N.C. about 5 p.m. Sunday, the prosecutor for the politician's home county said.

The intruder, Kyle Blackburn, was taken to a South Carolina hospital, but the injuries were not reported to be life-threatening, according to Rex Gore, district attorney for Columbus, Bladen andBrunswick counties..

The State Bureau of Investigation and Columbus County Sheriff's Department are investigating the shooting, Gore said.  Soles, who was not arrested, declined to discuss the incident Sunday evening.

"I am not in a position to talk to you," Soles said by telephone. "I'm right in the middle of an investigation."

The Senator, who has made a career of being against gun ownership for the general public, didn't hesitate to defend himself with his own gun when he believed he was in immediate danger and he was the victim.

In typical hypocritical liberal fashion, the "Do as I say and not as I do" Anti-Gun Activist Lawmaker picked up his gun and took action in what apparently was a self-defense shooting. Why hypocritical you may ask? It is because his long legislative record shows that the actions that he took to protect his family, his own response to a dangerous life threatening situation, are actions that he feels ordinary citizens should not have if they were faced with an identical situation.

It has prompted some to ask if the Senator believes his life and personal safety is more valuable than yours or mine.

But, this is to be expected from those who believe they can run our lives, raise our kids, and protect our families better than we can.

What a difference a century makes!   Here are some statistics for the Year 1910:   ***********************************   The average life expectancy for men was 47 years.   Fuel for this car was sold in drug stores only.   Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.   Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.   There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.   The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.   The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!   The average US wage in 1910 was 22 cents per hour.   The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year.   A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.   More than 95 percent of all births took place at HOME.   Ninety percent of all Doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION!   Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press AND the government as 'substandard.'   Sugar cost four cents a pound.   Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.   Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.   Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo.   Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason.   The five leading causes of death were:   1. Stroke   The American flag had 45 stars.   The population of Las Vegas Nevada was only 30!   Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented yet.   There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.   Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write and only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.   Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.   There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE U.S.A.!   I am now going to forward this to someone else without typing it myself.   From there, it will be sent to others all over the WORLD... all in a matter of seconds!   Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years.

13 Tax Increases in 2013

New Year’s Day was tough for taxpayers. Thirteen tax increases kicked in.

The deal that Congress and President Obama struck that finally—but only partially—avoided the fiscal cliff resulted in seven tax increases.

Those hikes combined with six tax increases from Obamacare that also began on New Year’s Day.

13 Tax Increases That Started January 1, 2013

Tax increases in the fiscal cliff deal:

1. Payroll tax: increase in the Social Security portion of the payroll tax from 4.2 percent to 6.2 percent for workers. This hits all Americans earning a paycheck—not just the “wealthy.” For example, The Wall Street Journal calculated that the “typical U.S. family earning $50,000 a year” will lose “an annual income boost of $1,000.”

2. Top marginal tax rate: increase from 35 percent to 39.6 percent for taxable incomes over $450,000 ($400,000 for single filers).

3. Phase out of personal exemptions for adjusted gross income (AGI) over $300,000 ($250,000 for single filers).

4. Phase down of itemized deductions for AGI over $300,000 ($250,000 for single filers).

5. Tax rates on investment: increase in the rate on dividends and capital gains from 15 percent to 20 percent for taxable incomes over $450,000 ($400,000 for single filers).

6. Death tax: increase in the rate (on estates larger than $5 million) from 35 percent to 40 percent.

7. Taxes on business investment: expiration of full expensing—the immediate deduction of capital purchases by businesses.

Obamacare tax increases that took effect:

8. Another investment tax increase: 3.8 percent surtax on investment income for taxpayers with taxable income exceeding $250,000 ($200,000 for singles).

9. Another payroll tax hike: 0.9 percent increase in the Hospital Insurance portion of the payroll tax for incomes over $250,000 ($200,000 for single filers).

10. Medical device tax: 2.3 percent excise tax paid by medical device manufacturers and importers on all their sales.

11. Reducing the income tax deduction for individuals’ medical expenses.

12. Elimination of the corporate income tax deduction for expenses related to the Medicare Part D subsidy.

13. Limitation of the corporate income tax deduction for compensation that health insurance companies pay to their executives.

Each of these 13 tax increases will slow the economy, meaning that businesses will create fewer jobs. Fewer jobs will make it even more difficult to land a job than it already is for the more than 12 million Americans looking for work.

President Obama demanded these higher taxes. Obama's tax increases, in Obamacare and through the fiscal cliff deal, will not curb deficits and debt, because growing spending is driving America's budget crisis. Congress needs to immediately turn its attention to the actual cause of our deficit and debt problem: too much spending. The proper way to address this problem is through reforms to entitlement programs.

President Obama promised the American people a “balanced approach” of tax increases and spending cuts to reduce deficits and debt. He has achieved the tax increase portion of that approach. Now Congress needs to force him to follow through on the spending cuts portion.

“In its latest annual report for fiscal year 2011 to 2012, Planned Parenthood reveals that it performed 333,964 abortions in 2011 – a record year for the organization,” reports The Washington Examiner.

Somewhere in America, a Notre Dame fan thinks God is smiting them for letting Barack Obama speak on campus. Really, the answer is much simpler than that — just root for the SEC. For those of you adamantly anti-Alabama, Joe Scarborough might just be insufferable for you this morning. Fair warning.
1. Harry Reid Plotting to Abolish the Filibuster
There is no breathing room this year for those of us who fight endless GOP capitulations in Washington. Within the first few weeks of the new session, we must confront a grave assault on the Filibuster in the Senate.
Harry Reid is plotting some version of the “nuclear option” to limit the filibuster when the Senate convenes to adopt the rules package for the new Congress. It essentially works like this. Every rules change in the Senate requires a 67-vote threshold to adopt the change. Harry Reid is offering the absurd argument that the Senate is not a continuous body, and is therefore not governed by the rules of the previous session on the first day of the new Congress (before the rules package is adopted). With that in mind, he plans to abolish the filibuster on “the motion to proceed” and limit the minority’s ability to offer amendments when they vote on the rules package. He plans to do this with a simple majority vote.
Although the Senate already convened last Thursday, Reid used a parliamentary procedure blocking any adjournment of the Senate, so that the body will technically remain in its first “legislative day.” This will provide him with the opportunity to pull the trigger later this month. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

The Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act (H.R. 61) seeks to prevent the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) from giving more money to abortion providers such as Planned Parenthood. The Hartford Courant is reporting that Sandy Hook gunman, Adam Lanza, used only 15 rounds from some of the 30 round magazines he was carrying. 8 Deadly Agents 'To Bring U.S. To Its Knees'

Iranian scientists, working under orders from the radicals running the Islamic regime, have genetically altered microbial agents in a nightmarish scheme to bring the West to its knees.

According to a source in the Revolutionary Guards intelligence unit with knowledge of Iran’s microbial research and development, the scientists, with Russian and North Korean help, currently possess eight extremely dangerous microbial agents that, if unleashed, could kill millions of people.

As reported exclusively on WND on Dec. 16, the source revealed the existence of a plant in Marzanabad, Iran, where 12 Russian and 28 Iranian scientists are working on microbial agents for bombs.

At that time, the source disclosed that Iran was working on 18 agents, with four completed. He has now provided information that with work at two other plants, Iran has created a total of eight microbial agents, with research on insects to be used as the vector to infect the societies of its enemies.

The eight agents are anthrax, encephalitis (the blueprint of this virus, Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis, was provided by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in an agreement two years ago with the Islamic regime), yellow grain (developed with the help of North Korea), SARS, Ebola, cholera, smallpox and plague.

Iran, with North Korea’s help, has genetically altered the smallpox virus that makes current vaccinations useless against it. And research at two facilities that act as drug companies but are fronts for the deadly research shows insects can be used as the vector to carry plague, infamous as the “Black Death,” according to the source.

The outbreak of plague in the Middle Ages killed one-third of Europe’s population, and it resurfaced in the 19th century in Asia, killing millions in China and India.

The radicals ruling Iran believe their planned microbial attacks cannot be traced to them, the source said. Through various commerce channels and trade with Europe and even through Mexico into the U.S., the regime could release the infected insects and small rodents into populated cities, causing an epidemic that could possibly kill tens of millions of people, he said.

“The most dangerous biological weapons agents today are genetically modified or even synthetically created in a laboratory in ways that not only make them more contagious, infectious and lethal, but also are intended to defy existing vaccine countermeasures,” said Clare M. Lopez, a senior fellow at the Center for Security Policy, a non-profit, non-partisan think tank based in Washington, D.C. “Among such (biological weapons) agents are (genetically-modified) strains of anthrax, plague and smallpox.

“The open-source literature consistently describes Russia and North Korea as sources of such strains and the scientific know-how to create and deploy them,” Lopez said.

“Likewise, Iran and Syria are reported to be among the recipients of such deadly (biological weapons) agents; each of these countries also has an extensive medical and pharmaceutical research and development infrastructure within which to produce (and also conceal) its BW programs.
Both Iran and Syria also have shared not only these pathogens, but the artillery, ballistic missile and munitions technology with each other and, likely, with Hezbollah as well, for delivery of such pathogens.”

Lopez said that insects such as fleas, flies and mosquitoes long have been recognized as natural vectors for the spread of deadly diseases and that disease-bearing insects have been used in warfare for centuries, perhaps most notoriously by the Japanese during WW II against China, causing the death of hundreds of thousands.

While cholera typically is not fatal if treated quickly, some strains can kill within hours. Bubonic plague has been the cause of some of the greatest pandemics in world history.

The Revolutionary Guards source added that the Islamic regime has already armed 37 of its ballistic missiles with microbial agents, which upon launch would spray targeted areas as opposed to an explosion. It has also armed cluster bombs with such agents, which could be dropped from fighter jets spraying an intended area.

What makes it worse, the source said, is that Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and other terrorist proxies of the regime have now been armed with microbial weapons. As reported in the Washington Times in August, chemical and microbial weapons have been transferred to Iran’s proxies in the region.

The West, with its soft approach on the radical regime in Iran, has provided the needed time not only for it to arm itself with some of the most deadliest biological weapons but also, with the help of North Korea, to get the nuclear bomb, and, despite what the West believes, is now working to arm its missiles with such weapons of mass destruction, the source said.

President Barack Obama and the Democrat controlled GOVERNMENT is considering sweeping legislation that will provide new benefits for many Americans. The Americans with No Abilities Act. Advocates of the millions of Americans who lack any real skills or ambition are hailing AWNAA as a major legislative goal.

Roughly 50 percent of Americans do not possess the competence and drive necessary to carve out a meaningful role for themselves in society,' said California Senator Barbara Boxer. 'We can no longer stand by and allow People of Inability to be ridiculed and passed over. With this legislation, employers will no longer be able to grant special favors to a small group of workers, simply because they have some idea of what they are doing.'

In a Capitol Hill press conference, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pointed to the success of the U.S. Postal Service, which has a long-standing policy of providing opportunity without regard to performance. Approximately 74 percent of postal employees lack any job skills, making this agency the single largest U. S. employer of Persons of Inability.

Private-sector industries with good records of non-discrimination against the Inept include retail sales (72%), the airline industry (68%), and home improvement 'warehouse' stores (65%).

At the state government level, the Department of Motor Vehicles also has an excellent record of hiring Persons of Inability (63%).

Under The Americans With No Abilities Act, more than 25 million 'middle person' positions will be created, with important-sounding titles but little real responsibility, thus providing an illusory sense of purpose and performance. Mandatory non-performance-based raises and promotions will be given so as to guarantee upward mobility for even the most unremarkable employees. The legislation provides substantial tax breaks to corporations that promote a significant number of Persons of Inability into middle-management positions, and gives a tax credit to small and medium-sized businesses that agree to hire one clueless worker for every two talented hires.

Finally, the AWNAA contains tough new measures to make it more difficult to discriminate against the non-abled, banning, for example, discriminatory interview questions such as, 'Do you have any skills or experience that relate to this job?'

"As a Non-abled person, I can't be expected to keep up with people who have something going for them," said Mary Lou Gertz, who finally (after years of Union delays) lost her position as a lug-nut twister at the GM plant in Flint, Michigan, due to her inability to remember 'righty tightey, lefty loosey. "This new law should be really really good for people like me," Gertz added. With the passage of this bill, Gertz and millions of other untalented citizens will finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Said Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL): "As a Senator with no abilities, I believe the same privileges that elected officials enjoy ought to be extended to every American with no abilities". It is our duty as lawmakers to provide each and every American citizen, regardless of his or her inadequacy, with some sort of space to take up in this great nation and a good salary for doing nothing".

WASHINGTON TURNS EVERYONE WHO GOES THERE INTO WEASELS.

Everything that everyone loathes about Washington was present in the “fiscal cliff” bill just passed by Congress. It is 153 pages long; most members probably hadn’t read all of it before voting on it; it was delivered in the middle of the night; it was loaded with pork — the mother’s milk (to mix a metaphor) of politicians — and while the country is already swamped with massive debt, it contains massive giveaways to satisfy interest groups and campaign contributors. Did I mention the bill raises taxes on top of the coming Obamacare taxes, but does nothing — nothing — to address the debt problem?
As with previous congresses, this one (again) delayed the debt issue for two months and will have to face it again, along with what to do about the debt ceiling. Only expletives that can’t be printed in a family newspaper accurately characterize this bunch, so I’ll have to settle for pathetic, unprincipled and irresponsible.
This “fiscal cliff” was a construct created by Congress. The additional revenue from productive businesses and individuals earning more than $400,000 and couples making $450,000 won’t put more than the tiniest dent in the deficit and do nothing about the $16 trillion debt. According to the Congressional Budget Office the ratio of new taxes to spending cuts is 41 to 1. This assumes the cuts actually materialize, which is unlikely. If they do, they will merely be window dressing.
We’ve seen it all before. Democrats play this game more effectively than a nimble-handed magician. According to Americans for Tax Reform, in 1982, congressional Democrats promised President Reagan “$3 in spending cuts for every $1 in tax hikes.” Reagan agreed. He got the tax hikes immediately, but had his political pocket picked when Democrats never came through with the spending cuts.
It was the same with President George H.W. “read my lips, no new taxes” Bush. In 1990, “…Bush agreed to $2 in spending cuts for every $1 in tax hikes. The tax hikes went through… Not a single penny of the promised spending cuts actually happened.”
Democrats run this play so often you would think by now Republicans might have devised a better defense. But just like the smear that Republicans are anti-woman because they oppose spending tax dollars on free contraceptives and abortion, or lack compassion for the poor because they oppose increasing federal programs that don’t actually help the poor become less so, Republicans get trapped into voting to increase taxes in exchange for more empty promises to cut spending … eventually. And the country is the one that loses.
Conservatives sent a large number of “tea party” members to the House in the 2010 election, hoping to fix government. It hasn’t worked because the political culture there has been contaminated by an untreatable virus and even those with the best intentions soon acquire the infection.
Eighty-five Republicans voted for the monstrous bill (151 stood on principle and voted against it) because their leaders said that if they didn’t it would hurt the party’s chances in the next election. Think of how the media would treat them. One didn’t have to be in the room to “hear” what was said because it’s always the same. Give up your principles because the next election is paramount. And after the next election and the one after it, nothing changes.
The country should make up its mind. Do we want a government that lives within the boundaries of the Constitution — limited, financially stable and spending only on what the Constitution says it should — or, do we want a nation whose initials should be changed to ATM, dispensing goodies to any and all without regard to the financial health and welfare of this and future generations?
Passage of this bill seems to indicate the choice has been made and ATM has won. It is a sorry affair for which we, and future generations, will be sorry, indeed.
