How did your representatives in Congress vote?
Dear Friend,
The House, Senate, and White House have reached an agreement regarding the fiscal cliff. While the agreement does extend the Bush tax cuts for all but the wealthiest Americans, all of us will face higher taxes in 2013 than we did in 2012.
At the same time our taxes are going up, so is the deficit. According to the Congressional Budget Office, the agreement will add $3.9 trillion to the deficit over the next ten years. The White House is calling this a “balanced” approach to dealing with our fiscal problems. That is difficult to see when the CBO initially estimated that the deal had $41 in tax increases for every $1 in spending cuts.
This morning the CBO revised its estimate down to $10 in new taxes for every $1 in spending cuts. While that is significantly better, it is still hard to see this as a “balanced” approach.
Use Take Action Central to find out how your Representative in the House and your two Senators voted on this bill. You can also send a message to them, expressing appreciation or disapproval of their vote. It is important that your elected officials know that you are watching their performance in Washington and that you will hold them accountable in the next election.
Sincerely in Christ,
