"He can't be serious."
That's what I thought this week when I saw President Obama's nominations to lead the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of Treasury.
In former Senator Chuck Hagel (for Defense) and White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew (for Treasury), the president named two individuals who should raise serious concerns for Americans who care about our nation's security, but most especially our economic strength. (A third nominee, John Brennan to head the Central Intelligence Agency, was more reassuring - would that the president had nominated equally capable leaders for Defense and Treasury.)
Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) is on record opposing the Hagel and Lew nominations. You can read why at our website:
Hagel: Wrong Man at the Wrong Time
Lew: More of the Same Failed Economic Policies
These choices by President Obama make it clear that he has no desire to engage in a meaningful and serious discussion of what is required to restore economic prosperity and meet the security challenges of a dangerous world. Once again, the president missed an opportunity to get serious about our national debt, the need for spending reform, and the strength of our military. Plain and simple - he is not serious about reform.
