Jobs & Accountability: House GOP Working to Build a Stronger Economy While Holding Obama Admin Accountable on IRS, Benghazi, & More MAY 19, 2013 | VIEW ONLINE “Jobs is our primary focus,” said Speaker John Boehner last week. “But while we’re focused on that, we’re also focused on holding this administration accountable. Our committees are working overtime to uncover the truth about what happened in Libya. And they’re trying to get to the bottom of what happened in the IRS scandal.” Jobs and accountability were the subject of the Weekly Republican Address: Standing next to 20,000 pages of regulations from the president’s health care law (which is driving up costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire), Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) said, “It’s the IRS that will be responsible for enforcing many of these regulations. If we’ve learned anything this week, it’s that the IRS needs less power, not more.” Watch Rep. Harris in the Weekly Republican Address. “The IRS admitted to targeting conservatives, even if the White House continues to be stuck on the word ‘if,’” said Speaker Boehner. “My question isn't about who is going to resign. The House votes this week on a bill to clear those roadblocks and pave the way for thousands of new jobs and more affordable energy. Repealing ObamaCare is all about jobs: “Jobs is what this is all about,” said Speaker Boehner as the House voted to repeal the president’s health care law. Boehner said the red tape tower has to go if we want to create new jobs. ObamaCare is driving up costs and making it harder for small businesses to hire, and Gallup says it “could be a significant drag on the U.S. economy.” Premiums skyrocketing under ObamaCare: “Internal cost estimates from 17 of the nation’s largest insurance companies indicate that health insurance premiums will grow an average of 100 percent under Obamacare,” reported the Washington Examiner. Read the Energy & Commerce Committee report. Seven bills the president has already signed that repeal or defund parts of ObamaCare: The House has voted three times since 2011 to fully repeal the health care law. House investigating the IRS scandal: The Ways & Means Committee held a hearing on Friday to investigate the IRS for improperly targeting political opponents of President Obama.
