Autodefensas: Dr. Mireles California hometown speaks about him Posted: 23 Nov 2013 10:31 PM PST Borderland Beat This article is from the Modesto Bee.  Modesto is the northern California city Dr. Manuel Mireles and his family called home for a decade before returning to Michoacán.  This is the first American article I have seen that was a "go to" rather than gathering facts from afar...from the people who know him well.  I have included a foto of one of the "homemade" armor trucks autodefenzas use.  (below) "In his free time, he and a daughter volunteered as translators for the Modesto branch of the American Red Cross, later translating first-aid booklets and other Red Cross materials for the Michoacán migrants in the region."... TEPALCATEPEC, Mexico – Dr. Jose Manuel Mireles dons a white lab coat and attends to patients at a clinic during the day.  But during off hours, he has a second calling: chief of a ragtag band of armed vigilantes who are trying to keep gangsters out of the small city of Tepalcatepec. After living a decade in Modesto, Mireles, 55, returned to this corner of Mexico’s Michoacán state in 2007, bringing his family with him. His return was not easy. Drug-trafficking gangsters marauded across the land, and his hometown had grown unrecognizably violent. “We used to have seven or eight executions every week,” Mireles said, and nearly every business and ranch was paying extortion fees to the dominant drug-trafficking crime gang, known as the Knights Templar. So on Feb. 24, Mireles and a cabal of other disgruntled citizens took up arms, set up sandbag bunkers at the four entrances to the city and hung banners that said the Knights Templar gangsters would face the armed wrath of residents if they entered city limits. “For eight months now, we’ve had no murders, no extortions, no rapes, no turf taxes, nothing,” Mireles said. Mireles is now famous in these parts, known simply as “the doctor,” instantly recognizable with his shock of wavy graying hair, a bushy mustache, movie-star good looks and deep resonant voice. He’s also a hero to many of the 400 families of Tepalcatepec migrants living in the Modesto area. “He’s got the support of 100 percent of the community here,” said Salvador Andrade Mendoza, the head of the Casa Michoacán Federation in Modesto. Mireles said his self-defense group, part of a network of armed citizen groups that over the past weekend captured the seventh of Michoacán's 113 townships, wasn’t looking for war with the Knights Templar. Rather, the groups just want to keep the gang away. Mireles said Article 10 of Mexico’s Constitution permitted citizens to carry weapons “for their protection and legitimate defense,” even though some of the assault rifles the self-defense groups carry are restricted to use by police and soldiers. Since local police operate in tandem with organized crime, and state law agents are often in collusion as well, Mireles said the group had no option. “It is a legitimate and legal movement,” he said. “We are not criminals. What we need is justice. We need to restore the rule of law to Michoacán.” On a recent day, Mireles let a journalist accompany him to meetings with leaders of other municipal self-defense groups. While Mireles himself didn’t seem to carry a gun, many escorts carried weapons in a caravan of some 10 pickups and SUVs that sped along with blinking flashers. Some didn’t have license plates. But all carried placards on doors saying they were part of the self-defense forces. The caravan sailed quickly through army checkpoints, indicating military tolerance, if not support, for the citizen groups. Mireles couldn’t work in his profession when he lived in Modesto because his Mexican medical certificate isn’t valid in the United States. So he took odd jobs: breaking rocks, canning boneless chicken, making auto rims, harvesting almonds. In his free time, he and a daughter volunteered as translators for the Modesto branch of the American Red Cross, later translating first-aid booklets and other Red Cross materials for the Michoacán migrants in the region. In 2007, Mireles brought his family back home, partly so that his eldest son, Jose Mireles Valencia, who’s now 26, could attend medical school. The son’s voice quivered a bit as he recounted how his father had gathered the family together earlier this year to announce that he’d form the self-defense group, alerting them to the dangers inherent in taking up arms. “He said he loved us and he was proud of us. Because I’m the eldest, he asked me to take care of the others when the time comes,” the son said. The son is nowhere near as confident as the father that the self-defense groups will succeed in keeping well-financed, heavily armed drug gangs at bay. “The chances of another cartel taking over here are 90 percent,” said the son, speaking in the English he learned at Evelyn Hanshaw Middle School and Modesto High School. “Emphasize this: It’s a temporary peace. In two years, we’ll be put back in the same or a worse situation.” “My children don’t want to be here,” the elder Mireles acknowledged. The threats are real, he said, and lots of corruption in the city has been exposed. When the self-defense group started up, Mireles said, he discovered that 124 police officers were on city payrolls, when in reality only 22 officers were employed. The rest was featherbedding, profits raked off by corrupt officials. The city’s mayor, Guillermo Valencia, fled and hasn’t returned. Mireles said his experience in California had showed him that good government was possible in his homeland. “I learned that you live better if you have better elected officials. In the United States, the police are honest, the tax system is not corrupt. Here, it is all crap,” he said. Jalisco state mass grave death total rises to 37 Posted: 23 Nov 2013 09:00 AM PST By Chris Covert Rantburg.com Another four bodies were found in the La Barca, Jalisco mass grave Friday bringing the death toll to 37, according to Mexican news reports. According to an El Universal wire service report featured on the website of El Diario de Coahuilanews daily, all but two of the dead were men.  Mexican Procuraduria General de la Republica(PGR) or attorney general Jesus Murillo Karam, was quoted saying that 31 bodies have been examined, but none of them are the two PGR ministerial agents who went missing two weeks ago. The grave was found after police detained 22 individuals of a kidnapping ring, including local police agents almost two weeks ago.  Information from the raid led investigators to the La Barca site.  Apparently the gravesite extends over an area which straddles the Michoacan and Jalisco state borders, and include Villa Hermosa municipality in Michoacan, as well as La Barca municipality. Michoacan is currently one of Mexico's most violent states, as drug cartels have reacted with violence to indigenous self defense groups, which were formed stop encroachment on Indian land considered sacred. Meanwhile in Tancitaro municipality, a Mexican Army road patrol exchanged gunfire with suspected members of Los Caballeros Templarios drug cartel Friday.  The Proceso wire service report did not detail casualties in this latest encounter. Armed suspects were caught at around 1600 hrs.  According to the wire report, the encounter was the third in Tancitaro municipality since November 16th, when self defense groups, colloquially known asautodefensa took control of Tepalcatepec and Buenavista Tomatlan municipalities. The report also mentions a separate shooting involving drug cartel shooters taking place in November 19th in Tancitaro municipality near the village of Zirimbo.  In that incident, cartel shooters fired their weapons on a residence.  Casualties in that shooting were not detailed in the wire report. GLOBAL WARMING AND THE ECO-SOCIALISTS Posted: 23 Nov 2013 05:08 PM PST There is little doubt in my mind that the radical socialists and communists have infiltrated the environmental movement, where an abundance of “useful idiots” contribute their time, effort, and money to pursue a socialist agenda and to use our laws against us. A fifth column designed by our enemies, both foreign and domestic, to use our own money and laws against us as they advance their toxic agenda. The socialists are all about gaining and maintaining political power through the creation and management of real or imagined scarcity. Very rarely do you hear that mankind is smart enough to use their brains and technology to grow their way out of potential disaster. No, it is all about population control and the need for affluent or industrialized nations to curtail their lifestyles and to reduce their standard of living – all for the purposes of fulfilling the socialist’s wealth redistribution promises to those “population units” whom they are encouraging to revolt and disrupt the system. Here is an example of how the socialists are trying to subvert American society … As you read this piece, consider that the socialist “scientists,” acting on behalf of the United Nations or their member states, have openly lied and distorted so-called scientific data  to gin up media attention and funding for their causes. In reality, the United Nations is a dismal fraud upon the world as they sat idly by and watched the genocide in Africa, appointed the worst human rights offenders to positions on their committees, and have killed hundreds of millions of people with their nonsense about DDT.  Consider the implications of a significant reduction of spending on our infrastructure and our economy. A road to ruin that is heartily encouraged by those who do not wish America well and want to weaken her defenses in order to promote the rise of another socialist/communist superpower to hold America “in check” and unable to spread democracy to totalitarian states. Note, this video is approximately 26 minutes long and filled with socialist/communist propaganda … I find it amazing that the socialist/communists are now calling for “clean” nuclear power after decades of protesting against anything nuclear – ostensibly to reduce our weapons-making capabilities and to keep us from true energy independence. Bear in mind that we now have solidly-engineered nuclear reactors, but politics (NIMBY – Not In My Back Yard) plays a role in site selection and the selection of contracts; many of whom have been known to cut corners in the past to increase profits and make up for their low-bids. It is also extremely funny that many of the activists protested the meeting saying “polluters talk, we walk” – perhaps in reference to the fact that carbon and pollution credits are little more than government-sanctioned “indulgences” that allow polluters to keep polluting their local air, water, and land while passing the costs on to their utility ratepayers, customers, and the public at large. All based on some theoretical calculation involving trees in a rain forest and a piece of paper created, sold, banked, and traded by the Wall Street Wizards and their wealthy friends. "We Have to Consume Less": Scientists Call For Radical Economic Overhaul to Avert Climate Crisis A pair of climate scientists are calling for what some may view as a shocking solution to the global warming crisis: a rethinking of the economic order in the United States and other industrialized nations. Kevin Anderson and Alice Bows-Larkin of the influential Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research in England say many of the solutions proposed by world leaders to prevent "runaway global warming" will not be enough to address the scale of the crisis. They have called for "radical and immediate de-growth strategies in the United States, EU and other wealthy nations." Anderson says that to avoid an increase in temperature of two degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit), the world would require a "revolutionary change to the political and economic hegemony." Now that the United States has moved from an agrarian society, through the industrial revolution, to the age of technology and service industries, it should be noted that we thrive on consumerism. And, that without the continuing consumption of goods and services, money would accrete to the wealthy, our standard of living will nosedive, and we will be caught-up in a death spiral that promises to turn America into an unexceptional member nation of the United Nations, much like the socialist democracy of France. First, I have never heard of the influential Tyndall Centre nor the two scientists quoted. Second, the concept of “runaway global warming” is not a fact, not an observation of historical climate patterns, and is little more than a hypothesis based on deeply-flawed computer models with mistaken assumptions and highly-massaged input data. The fact is that global climate seems to change about 1.2o Celsius and that all of the climate patterns we are seeing are well within the range of normal and historical climate variability. Truth be told, the majority of the climate models failed to predict or illustrate the current decade+ of global cooling. But, the authors are dead-on correct about the “revolutionary” change and wealth redistribution that is being referenced by radical socialists and communists Third, it appears that Kevin and his colleagues are hanging with the eco-socialists and trying to bring about a revolution … “Socialist Bolivian President Evo Morales said delegates needed to fight a “battle between capitalism and life.” Without a strong agreement, global warming “will keep getting worse,” he warned. Some of his proposed solutions: a “Climate Tribunal” for “climate criminals,” implementation of his “Declaration of Rights” for “Mother Earth,” and, of course, lots of capitalist money transfers. His sentiments were echoed by representatives of tin-pot dictators around the world — most of whom love to blame the problems they have created in their own countries on global warming and “evil capitalist” countries. Morales’ counterpart in Venezuela, socialist strongman Hugo Chavez, blamed a downpour that washed away some shanty towns in his utopia on “capitalism,” too. Their supposed solution: world socialism.” “This, naturally, was music to the ears of the Socialist International (SI), the worldwide organization of socialist and communist parties, which plays an important role at all UN conferences. The Socialist International — which counted Obama’s “Climate Czar” Carol Browner among its leaders until she left SI to join the new U.S. administration — joined the call for committing at least $100 billion per year into a United Nations “Green Fund,” ostensibly to save the poor.” “A proposal by Professor Kevin Anderson, director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research in the U.K., made a splash at Cancun. Anderson authored a paper for the Royal Society urging the adoption of a draconian World War II-style rationing system — for carbon emissions. “The Second World War and the concept of rationing is something we need to seriously consider if we are to address the scale of the problem we face,” he explained in the article, urging world rulers to limit electricity and prohibit food imports, among other things. His suggestion would involve a total freeze on economic growth in developed countries and “carbon rations” for every person on the planet. Unbelievably, at least one of his “Royal Society” colleagues said even that would not be enough.”  <Source> Fourth, we continue to see well-credentialed, well-titled, and well-employed “scientists” bridge the gap between science and socialism. Some even going to far as to define socialism as the scientific management The philosophy of science basis of the claim of Marxism—and, in the Soviet Union, Marxism-Leninism—to be a science is based its conceptions of dialectical materialism and historical materialism. Although the influence of Marxist thought especially in the social sciences is great, there are no communities of theoretical or applied scientists or technicians based on Marxism. <Source> Fifth, as many have noted, the discipline of so-called “climate science” seems to include many individuals outside of the traditional disciplines of physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Many of the activists who are engaged in “doing climate science” appear to be geologists, engineers and others in the social sciences and economics who find that funding and recognition can be more easily obtained when one links and extrapolates their work to the “climate realm, rather than simply stating their findings and conclusions in scientific journals. A review of the participants of any of the socialist-dominated climate conferences is heavily weighted towards political functionaries. And sixth, it should be noted that, as with any radical political movement such as socialism and communism, those with a contrarian findings, conclusions or view points are demonized, disparaged, or denigrated with the goal of making them and their work irrelevant. Flying is no longer for the “wealthy” and modern communications has brought the various peoples of this world closer than ever before. Perhaps one reason why the socialists and communists want to control the discussion. How else are they going to explain to “their people” why their life in crapistan is horrible and others – even the poor – are thriving in the United States and elsewhere. To tell them the truth about their totalitarian kleptocracy would be to invite a revolution of the wrong kind, the kind that throws the corrupt enlightened ruling elite on the ash heap of history without significant wealth, position, and power to elevate their exalted being. Bottom line … As long as corruption exists in government, and human nature makes it a certainty, there is no equitable solution to the division of natural or manmade resources. The idea that the politicians can sell their public policies to the masses based on the fear of a planetary emergency is ludicrous in the light of simple facts: the Earth has been hotter and colder, with more atmospheric carbon dioxide and less atmospheric carbon dioxide, before man’s significant influence began in the industrial revolution. Man has always adapted to changing climates and circumstances by moving or improving their sheltering mechanisms and methodologies. Man cannot affect the energy output of the Sun, the position of the Earth relative to the Sun, nor the Earth’s rotational and processional dynamics.  Likewise, man cannot effect the Earth’s volcanology, plate tectonics, deep ocean currents. or the greatest greenhouse gas of all, water vapor. Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant, but a life-sustaining gas; and that an increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide is beneficial for plants, oxygen production, and life in general. Likewise, the rise in carbon dioxide lags the rise in temperature, so carbon dioxide is not a causal factor in global climate change. Socialists and communists are all about revolution and the imposition of a totalitarian regime to control the people for the benefit of the ruling elite. With respect to climate science, I defer to Dick Feynman's observation, anything with science is the title (e.g. climate science, political science, etc.)  often has little or nothing to do with science as it is commonly understood. With respect to the climate and political scientists who are attempting to overthrow the United States government and transform America into a socialist state – STFU or go cure the poverty and pollution in China, Russia, and elsewhere using nothing but their natural resources for funding. With respect to the “dudes in dashikis” and the participants of those socialist-named coalitions, networks, partnerships, and bio-diversity organizations, you come with your hands out, but have little or nothing to say about the kleptocrats running the show in your neighborhood. Perhaps it is time you revolted instead of making others feel responsible for your starving children and lack of clean water, food, and medicine. Before you ask Americans to transform their country into crapistan, perhaps you should clean up crapistan and prove that your socialist/communist system actually works and that you enjoy human rights and other God-given freedoms. And, I leave you with a fundamental question, Why should I disadvantage myself, my family, my friends, my community, my state, or my nation to give a portion of my hard-earned money to other third-world nations where it is, more often than not, stolen by corrupt political kleptocrats. BARACK OBAMA AGREES TO CUT A DEAL WITH IRAN, SELLS OUT ISRAEL TO DISTRACT AMERICA FROM OBAMACARE FAILURE Posted: 23 Nov 2013 09:30 PM PST The only reason President Obama took to the airwaves Saturday night was to influence the Sunday news cycle and to ensure that the Administration’s chin-waggers talk about the great deal Obama cut with Iran INSTEAD OF THE CONTINUING ABYSMAL FAILURE OF OBAMACARE. However, for those who are watching closely, President Obama agreed to turn over BILLIONS of blocked dollars and reduce economy-crippling sanctions that were forcing Iran to moderate its nuclear program. Unfortunately, the real deal is that Iran will consider a reduction in their nuclear program – not cessation – when the U.S. check clears the bank. A promise not unlike the one Neville Chamberlin got from Adolph Hitler. Appeasement pure and simple … and all to distract the American public from the disaster that is Obamacare. Obviously, he cares little for the only productive democracy in the region … Reverend Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan would be so proud. And, unlike the rather inarticulate former President George Bush, I remember the pertinent quote: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me" What we now know … The White House and its administrative agencies are now beginning to bypass the progressive mainstream media in favor of producing or stage-managing their own media events. Using government employees to produce propaganda favorable to the President and his Administration. These pre-produced media products are then offered to the progressive mainstream media – with many outlets taking and presenting this propaganda sandwiched between their own commentary as if it was part of their production process. A great time and cost-savings benefit for the smaller outlets, but not exactly the role of an independent media that is being denied increasing access to the President, White House, and Administrative agency events. The President is not running for office and appears to care little for the people he purports to govern. President Obama has repeatedly been caught lying – and there is no other term – to the American people on a number of important and serious issues: the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the Benghazi 9/11 terror attack and the alleged conveyance of military-grade weaponry to militant fundamental Islamic radicals (AKA terrorists), the subversion of a presidential election using the IRS to deny fundraising opportunities to the opposition, the NSA spying on American soil, the Fast and Furious provision of weapons to Mexican drug cartels, and more yet to be discovered. The President doesn’t appear to care if he is attacked personally and is all about providing his cadre of progressive socialist democrats in Congress with cover from the fallout for the President’s lying, the pain and suffering inflicted on millions of Americans who thought Obamacare was going to provide them with better medical care and insurance at a lower cost, and all of the other scandals swirling about. So why should we trust the progressive mainstream media? It appears that the renewed vigor of the progressive mainstream media is a sham. Having overwhelmingly supported Barack Obama and progressive socialists democrats, they need to regain America’s trust as an independent arbiter – so they can feed the American public the same line of progressive bullshit when Hillary Clinton announced her presidential aspiration. All of the coverage given to conservatives and conservatism will evaporate in a flash on the day Hillary Clinton announces her candidacy. And, the vicious, personal attacks on the conservatives will be ramped up to record levels as they declare that the GOP is engaging in a “War on Women” and pointing out that the GOP hates Hispanics, children, clean water and clean air. A president desperate to change the subject and a secretary of state desperate to make a name for himself are reportedly on the verge of an “interim” nuclear agreement with Iran. France called it a “sucker’s deal.” France was being charitable.

The only reason Iran has come to the table after a decade of contemptuous stonewalling is that economic sanctions have cut so deeply (Iran’s currency has collapsed, inflation is rampant) that the regime fears a threat to its very survival.

Nothing else could move it to negotiate. Regime survival is the only thing the mullahs value above nuclear weapons. And yet precisely at the point of maximum leverage, President Obama is offering relief in a deal that is absurdly asymmetric: The West would weaken sanctions in exchange for cosmetic changes that do absolutely nothing to weaken Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

Don’t worry, we are assured. This is only an interim six-month agreement to “build confidence” until we reach a final one. But this makes no sense and is a bizarre negotiating tactic. And the content of the deal is even worse. It’s a rescue package for the mullahs.

It widens permissible trade in oil, gold and auto parts. It releases frozen Iranian assets, increasing Iran’s foreign-exchange reserves by 25 percent while doubling its fully accessible foreign-exchange reserves. Such a massive infusion of cash would be a godsend for its staggering economy, lowering inflation, reducing shortages and halting the country's growing demoralization. The prospective deal is already changing economic expectations. Foreign oil and other interests are reportedly preparing to reopen negotiations for a resumption of trade in anticipation of the full lifting of sanctions.

And for what? You’d offer such relief in return for Iran giving up its pursuit of nuclear weapons. Isn’t that what the entire exercise is about?

And yet this deal does nothing of the sort. Nothing. It leaves Iran’s nuclear infrastructure intact. Iran keeps every one of its 19,000 centrifuges, including 3,000 second-generation machines that produce enriched uranium at five times the rate.

Karenia brevis, the Florida red tide organism, was detected in water samples collected this week ranging from background to low concentrations at several locations in and alongshore of southern Charlotte County south to mid Lee County. Very low concentrations were also reported in several locations offshore of northern Sarasota County and low to high concentrations were detected offshore of Sanibel Island (mid Lee to northern Collier County) with the highest concentrations reported 10 miles west of Barefoot Beach (Collier County). A mortality event was reported today inside Charlotte Harbor involving several hundred fish, stretching from Pirate Harbor on the east side to Cape Haze on the west side.  

Additional samples collected in Florida waters this week did not contain K. brevis.
