After more than two years of stonewalling from the Obama administration, House Speaker John Boehner has confirmed he will appoint a Special Committee to investigate Benghazi with Congressman Trey Gowdy leading the way. The Weekly Standard was the first to report a possible announcement of a Select Committee earlier this morning.

Here is the full statement from Boehner on the Select Committee:

“Americans learned this week that the Obama Administration is so intent on obstructing the truth about Benghazi that it is even willing to defy subpoenas issued by the standing committees of the People's House. These revelations compel the House to take every possible action to ensure the American people have the truth about the terrorist attack on our consulate that killed four of our countrymen. In light of these new developments, the House will vote to establish a new select committee to investigate the attack, provide the necessary accountability, and ensure justice is finally served.

“The administration's withholding of documents – emails showing greater White House involvement in misleading the American people – is a flagrant violation of trust and undermines the basic principles of oversight upon which our system of government is built. And it forces us to ask the question, what else about Benghazi is the Obama administration still hiding from the American people?

“The House committees that have been investigating this attack have done extraordinary work, using their subpoena power, holding dozens of hearings, and conducting hundreds of interviews. Without this work we would not know much that we do today. But it’s clear that questions remain, and the administration still does not respect the authority of Congress to provide proper oversight. This dismissiveness and evasion requires us to elevate the investigation to a new level. I intend for this select committee to have robust authority, and I will expect it to work quickly to get answers for the American people and the families of the victims.

“Four Americans died at the hands of terrorists nearly 20 months ago, and we are still missing answers, accountability, and justice. It’s time that change.”

Fox News Hill producer Chad Pergram breaks down the process:

This committee will be very interesting to see how much co-operation they will get. My question Where does Al Qaeda come into the picture and the running of guns & ammo from Lybia to Turkey by who? Where are the video of the slainig of the ambassador by those attacking the conslate?

Let me say that I think appointing a Special Committee is warranted; Barack Obama is probably the most conniving politician and president this country has ever elected. He has polarized this country for his benefit, stomped on the Constitution, and lied every step of the way, BUT don't think that this Special Committee is without risk.....if not handled well, the GOP will be branded as witch hunting the first black president, and this could backfire....just as long as we are all aware of what could happen..
WJF Wrote:4 minutes ago (5:18 PM)
We will be branded all of that and more no matter what we do.

Damn the torpedoes - full steam ahead.

This is the best news I have heard in a long time. Trey Gowdy is perfect to head it up and get things moving. I expect a lot from this committee.

Enough information already exists (and much not yet discovered or revealed) to make the Liberal heads spin ... and soon they will be rolling ... Obama knows true Patriots will stand opposed to overcome attempts to declare martial law ... the bandwagon rolls ...

Trey will dig with out stop. Right now is not a good time to be a democrat. But then again is there ever a time to be a democrat.

A great move by Boehner in two ways. First in appointing the Benghazi select committee. And second by naming Trey Gowdy. Gowdy is far-and-away THE best member of congress today. Hopefully some day in the not too distance future Gowdy will run for president.

Trey Gowdy is a very successful prosecutor and he will do a great job.

I wouldn't count on this turning out any differently than any other investigation.

I might remind you that all of this could have been avoided had Obama paid attention to foreign policy as it is, not how he envisioned it to be....four of our people died, and he never sent help. Had Obama cared more about our people in harms way, but he didn't; he cared more about his reelection. He never made it to the situation room or talked to Leon Panetta after 4 in the afternoon. He lied for weeks, and then withheld documents. He has nobody to blame but himself...

1) The Speaker is about 20 months late for the party.
2) I hope the meticulous Rep. Gowdy will retain some superb tax accountants.

1) I agree this has gone on too long, but Boehner had to follow procedure in order to avoid claims of malfeasance or worse.

2) Amen to that!

The bandwagon is rolling ... Democrats clamoring for a spot on-board will be trailing in the vanguard, huddled together and on foot ... really nice picture ... it'll be no easy journey, but they may rejoin the American constitutional Republic ... with probationary status under suspicion and scrutiny ... like the dog that has bitten once ... never again.

MSM will never regain trust or confidence of the American people ... show movies or sitcoms, but you've destroyed our respect and credibility to ever be newsworthy.

I wouldn't count on this turning out any differently than any other investigation.

Although many of you don't know this you are innocent until proven guilty. Not the other way around. Unless they can prove without a doubt that there was deliberate, calculated misconduct or deliberate attempt to obstruct justice, the level of competence is in the eye of the beholder. In other words, without proven allegations, it becomes a matter of judgment and when that's the case, the benefit of the doubt is given to the accused.

I don't think this will amount to anything

Corbett_ - I am honored to be the first to tell you 'go pound sand'!!!!!!!!!!

One must never leave a 'Brother in Arms' behind - especially for political reasons.

I do NOT want your help if I am ever in distress, because I do 'NOT TRUST' that you would not abandon me for intellectual or political reasons.
Corbett_ Wrote:31 minutes ago (4:52 PM)
WJF:

We have no "brothers in distress". The people in Benghazi are all dead. There is nothing we can do for them.

Your emotional outburst just shows that you are not a thinker. In the Army, we would have said that you are not officer material. Officers understand that you focus on your objective. You don't fritter away resources and you don't get emotional.

You do the job you're there to do. That's all that matters.

Now the job we have to do is to beat the Democrats in the upcoming election. We can do that if we don't waste our time, resources, and political capital on issues that simply do not matter to the American electorate. We cannot and should not allow ANYTHING to get in the way of fulfilling that mission. Once the mission is accomplished, THEN we can go take care of the "Brothers in Arms". But until the mission is accomplished, we focus on our mission. MISSION FIRST!
WJF Wrote:25 minutes ago (4:57 PM)
I am part of the electorate and I disagree that we should not pursue Benghazi.

Do you believe that personal freedom involves personal opinion?

Do you think that freedom means dictating what people can believe?

What is your definition of personal freedom?

CAIRO — In the month before attackers stormed U.S. facilities in Benghazi and killed four Americans, U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens twice turned down offers of security assistance made by the senior U.S. military official in the region in response to concerns that Stevens had raised in a still secret memorandum, two government officials told McClatchy.

Why Stevens, who died of smoke inhalation in the first of two attacks that took place late Sept. 11 and early Sept. 12, 2012, would turn down the offers remains unclear. The deteriorating security situation in Benghazi had been the subject of a meeting that embassy officials held Aug. 15, where they concluded they could not defend the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi. The next day, the embassy drafted a cable outlining the dire circumstances and saying it would spell out what it needed in a separate cable.

“In light of the uncertain security environment, US Mission Benghazi will submit specific requests to US Embassy Tripoli for additional physical security upgrades and staffing needs by separate cover,” said the cable, which was first reported by Fox News.

Army Gen. Carter Ham, then the head of the U.S. Africa Command, did not wait for the separate cable, however. Instead, after reading the Aug. 16 cable, Ham phoned Stevens and asked if the embassy needed a special security team from the U.S. military. Stevens told Ham it did not, the officials said.

So apparently what Conservatives are saying is General Carter Ham is a liar....Got it.

So just what does it say about the US Senate when they have no interest in the murder of an Ambassador and 3 other Americans. Perfectly willing to swallow anything their leaders tell them and leave the families of the deceased to try to get answers from the liars in the White House.
Dingy Harry Reid, the leader of his money grubbers in the Senate.
