Morning Briefing
For March 5, 2013

1. 974
If you live in the real world, you will notice that the federal government has destroyed our free markets, limited our freedoms, and denigrated our right to religious liberty – all before Obamacare has fully taken effect. The federal agencies continue to promulgate rules and regulations that drive up the cost of the most vital goods and services to the point that most of us will require government subsidies just to afford our most basic necessities, most notably, health insurance.

Yet, for many Capitol Hill conservatives who live in an exclusive world of budget-speak, we are on the cusp of restoring our Constitutional Republic. You see, the upcoming CR (H.R. 933) will fund discretionary spending for the remaining 6 months of Fiscal Year 2013 at the level of $974 billion [well, it's actually $982 billion, but it's close enough to the original RSC number for members to become all sentimental over it]. Isn’t that awesome? Forget about focusing our message on things that actually penetrate the tin ear of the average voter, such as losing their healthcare under Obamacare. We’re talking about our victory over “974.”

Did you ever think that Republicans would rally around a cry of “974?” What does the number 974 mean to you? Not much. No wonder why Republicans have a terrible approval rating with the American public. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

2. Sen. Graham Backs Radical Obama Judicial Appointment
Caitlin Halligan, general counsel for Manhattan’s district attorney’s office, was nominated in 2010 to fill a vacancy on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, and has been re-nominated four times since then. A cloture vote to move forward with her nomination failed 54-45 in 2011. The presidential judicial appointments – by custom – should be taken under consideration by the Senate, but not this one. For starters, Halligan is a pro-abortion, anti-gun zealot, who just received the support of Sen. Lindsey Graham.

As Paul Mirengoff of PowerLine wrote yesterday, Halligan would be more of an activist, than a judge. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

3. Morse’s Bill Profiles African Americans While Claiming Gun Manufacturer Liability Bill Won’t Lead To Profiling
After concerns were raised over the possibility that Sen. John Morse’s (D-Colorado Springs) “Assault Weapon Responsibility Act” would force gun dealers to engage in profiling, Morse promptly denied the claim, despite precedent in the bill that would specifically profile and target African Americans.

According to the Brady Campaign to End Gun Violence, “African-Americans have the highest rates of firearm death (including homicides, suicides and unintentional shooting deaths) among racial and ethnic groups in the U.S.” Due to this fact, and that gun violence among African-Americans is more than twice that of whites, any seller who were to go through with the sale of an ‘Assault Weapon’ to an African-American would be in potential violation of the law. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

4. Circle The Wagons: The Left Goes Gunning For Texas
There are some Texans who may think that what happened in Colorado–and is currently happening in North Carolina and Virginia–cannot happen in Texas. That is, they do not believe that Texas can fall prey to an open-yet-quiet push by Left-wing groups like unions, Battleground Texas and others resulting in Texas ending up as a blue state in the next four to six years.

Unfortunately, they are mistaken. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →

5. Horsemen of the Obama Apocalypse: Famine leads by a nose
David Harsanyi’s new book, Obama’s Four Horsemen: The Disasters Unleashed by Obama’s Reelection is out today. He posted a hefty excerpt over at Human Events, where he and I are two of the primary horsemen. Based on this, I think he wants to be Death, and I’ll be War. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
