The Police Chief, Not an Officer, Should be DISCIPLINED!

div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
UPDATE: It appears that I was not the only one pissed-off at the Fairfax County Police Chief… Fairfax County cancels suspension, restores officer who cooperated with ICE Stung by a public outcry, Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin C. Roessler Jr. announced Wednesday that he had canceled the suspension and restored to duty an officer who had turned an illegal immigrant over to ICE. Chief Roessler said an investigation is still ongoing but he ended the officer’s suspension after a “procedural policy recommendation” as of Friday. [OCS: It looks like the officer was doing his job. It is the politicians and police chief who need to be investigated and disciplined.] “We have one of the best police forces in the U.S. and I have confidence that our officer will represent us well throughout his career,” the chief said in a statement. A day before he had announced the suspension and publicly shamed the officer, accusing him of breaking department policy by checking for warrants on a person he encountered at a traffic stop who lacked a license, then detaining the man when the county’s system showed he was wanted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Chief Roessler said the officer “deprived a person of their freedom, which is unacceptable.” [OCS: Who is this schmuck? Every time an arrest is made and an individual is taken into custody, they are deprived of their freedom.] He also said his department’s reputation had been harmed, and the punishment was a way to restore credibility with the community. Immigrant-rights activists had cheered the chief, saying he was showing solidarity with their communities by taking the bold step of suspending an officer for violating a sanctuary policy. [OCS: These illegal aliens are not lawful immigrants and should not be confused with the law-abiding legal immigrants who follow the rules and enter the United States legally. The idea that illegal aliens should have the rights of citizenship is abominable. Personally, I would like a show of reciprocity and apply Mexico’s immigration rights to these interlopers.] But offers of assistance and support for the officer poured in as well, and Chief Roessler was harshly criticized for attempting to make an example out of the officer. police There comes a time when law-abiding American citizens should demand that illegal aliens are not treated better than American citizens when they are stopped by the police… Fairfax County Police Officer Suspended for Turning Individual over to ICE The Fairfax County Police Department has suspended an officer for detaining and turning the driver in an accident over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Saturday in violation of the department’s policy not to assist ICE with civil enforcement. The driver lacked a Virginia driver’s license, so the officer who responded to the accident ran a Department of Motor Vehicles check and discovered that ICE had issued a civil violation to the individual for failing to appear for a deportation hearing, according to Fairfax County police. The officer verified the ICE warrant and contacted the ICE agent listed as the point of contact, who came to the scene of the traffic crash. The officer gave the driver a ticket for driving without a license but continued to detain the individual until the ICE agent took over custody. [OCS: Sounds like the officer performed his duties under the law and their sworn oath to uphold, protect, and defend the U.S. Constitution. I am unaware of any law that permits an illegal alien to escape a duly-issued federal warrant for failure to appear before the courts.] Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin Roessler lamented the incident and said the officer is being disciplined. “This is an unfortunate issue where the officer was confused,” the police chief said, according to the Washington Post. “We have trained on this issue a lot. This is the first time we’ve had a lapse in judgment, and the officer is being punished.” The officer has been relieved of all law-enforcement duties pending an internal investigation. [OCS: There is little or no doubt in my mind that the officer followed the law and took the appropriate action in response to a valid warrant. It is the police chief, Edwin Roessler, who needs to be disciplined for putting politics above policing and failing to recognize a valid warrant of any kind from the federal government supersedes departmental policies. Not only should the Department of Justice take action in assisting the officer in regaining his former status, but they should deny federal funding to the police department until they recognize that the power of the federal government trumps that of local politicians and petty tyrants.] “Our police officer violated our longstanding policy and deprived a person of their freedom, which is unacceptable,” Roessler added in a statement. “Our county is one of the most diverse counties in the nation and no one should have the perception that FCPD is acting as a civil immigration agent for ICE. This matter damages our reputation and the longstanding policy that I have stated many times that our officers shall not act as immigration agents.” [OCS: The fact that an illegal alien was driving without a license and involved in an accident should be grounds for deportation since the illegal alien had what amounted to a bench warrant for failure to appear – something that would see any American in custody if they were stopped by law enforcement.] The police department said ICE informed them that the driver was released after three hours with an ankle monitor. Bottom line… There must be consequences for those who violate the United States’ sovereignty and our laws. Is this police chief waiting for another drunk illegal alien to cause an accident with fatalities? Here in California, I remember when the progressive socialist democrat bureaucrats at the Department of Motor Vehicles justified issuing licenses to illegal aliens on the specious theory that currently unlicensed drivers would obtain a license and insurance. Yeah, right! The licenses appear to be used for identification – and conveniently lost when illegal aliens are stopped. There is a reason illegals drive cheap “beater” vehicles which can be abandoned at the scene of accidents and forgotten if impounded – even ones that can afford better cars, trucks, and vans. We are so screwed. -- steve I am too damn old to live under socialism. I am addicted to the luxuries of life like toilet paper, electricity on demand, clean water, abundant food in the supermarket, and shoes. Oh yeah, if gun control laws really worked, Chicago would be Mayberry. "The object in life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane." -- Marcus Aurelius “A people that elect corrupt politicians, imposters, thieves, and traitors are not victims... but accomplices” -- George Orwell
