CVA's Defend & Reform Forum Wrap-Up
What does the future hold for U.S. defense spending? With military budget cuts looming, how will the U.S. maintain military superiority? And what does a 'good' defense cut look like?
These-and others like them-are the questions panelists grappled with at a December 11th policy luncheon hosted by Concerned Veterans for America [CVA] and The Weekly Standard in Washington, D.C.
Entitled "Defend & Reform: The Future of America's Defense Spending", the event was moderated by William Kristol of The Weekly Standard and featured speeches from both Senator Lindsey Graham [R-SC] and Senator Kelly Ayotte [R-NH]. Michael O'Hanlon of the Brookings Institution provided the keynote address and was joined by a distinguished panel of experts that included U.S. Congressman Mike Coffman [R-Colo.], Steve Bucci [The Heritage Foundation], Pete Hegseth [Concerned Veterans for America], and Russell Rumbaugh [Stimson Center ].
The event was sold out, and over 4,800 people watched the event live on our website. But if you missed the event-no problem. Below you will find hyperlinks to videos for each individual speaker, as well as transcripts, photos, and pertinent quotes.
Concerned Veterans for America [CVA] believes Congress should undertake serious reforms to defense spending to maintain a sustainable fiscal path that preserves American power. To that end, over the past five months, CVA has produced five "case studies " that examine various examples of defense cuts and reforms, with an eye towards identifying what makes for smart, strategic, and effective defense reforms.
