Armed Group Kills 6 in Chihuaua, Burns Houses Posted: 13 Dec 2014 11:57 AM PST As reported by La Jornada Inhabitants of the town of Lluvia de Oro, Urique municipality, Chihuaha, reported that dozens of armed men of a sole gang that came in three groups arrived on Thursday in at least 20 pickup trucks and burned several houses. The aggressors, who were clothed in military style camouflage -green with black-, arrived after 10:00 PM, surrounding the locations and initiating the attack. The residents, who requested the help of the emergency systems of the Fiscalía General of Chihuahua in the western zone, reported that between the night of Wednesday and the early hours of Thursday six people were killed in the areas around this municipality. It is unknown if they were inhabitants of this place. The victims were shot with AK-47 rifles and it is supposed that the attack on Thursday nightcould be related with these crimes. Some neighbors that made the report the police and military authorities that the burning of houses provoked panic in the town as the armed individuals had shootouts on several occasions with another group, with a tole still not reported by the agents of the Fiscalía General of the state. The town of Lluvia de Oro is located in the upper part of the Tarahumara mountains and it is also known as Las Minas de Cieneguita de los Trejo, a region located quite close to the border with Sinaloa. The preliminary report of the Fiscalía detailed that the population requested the presence of Mexican armed forces and support via helicopter, as they reported that there were "many hitmen" in three groups which took control of the community and the gunshots were heard throughout the town. Alarmed, they requested help from the security groups of that location and detailed that the armed men arrived after 10:00 PM in three groups, which surrounded the location and initiated the armed attack against some of the neighbors, the motive being unknown. |
