But not the Obamas- though Barack has made his living exploiting class divisions and speaking a great deal about understanding the plight of the middle and lower classes (and blaming the upper class for most of society’s problems) the fact is that the Obamas not only live like the 1%, they live more like King Louis and Marie Antoinette.
As Americans struggle to make ends meet, the Obamas have enjoyed a series of fabulous vacations.
The First Family took a “Winter vacation” (you and I might know them as “Christmas vacations”). While that’s not out-of-line, the Obamas enjoyed a whopping 16-day vacation, more than what most people will receive all year in terms of paid vacation time.
After returning in January, the Obamas stayed busy until it was vacation time again. Currently, Michelle and the girls are in Aspen, Colorado, skiing and Barack is in California on a golf outing with buddies.
It should be noted that President Obama is drinking Arnold Palmers and golfing with buddies 24 hours after ISIS beheaded 21 Christians and as the rest of the civilized world prepares for war against these savages.
Of course, this requires separate security details, separate accommodations and separate transportation costs. But hey, it’s the least we can do for the man who brought us “hope’n’change,” right?
However, the ski trip won’t be enough; Michelle and her daughters and, presumably, her mother (for whom we furnish a lavish, jetsetting retirement) will be travelling to Japan in March and visiting Tokyo and Kyoto.
We need not be unreasonable; being president is a good gig and it comes with some special perks. Republicans, Democrats- all have stretched the limits of good taste in enjoying their lifestyle on the taxpayer dime.
What sets the Obamas apart is:
A) Their near-constant class warfare rhetoric is in direct contrast to their lifestyle. If you want to live like a celebrity and party with rappers and jetset around the globe for vacations, fine; just don’t lecture me about how “the rich” (which includes medium-sized, privately-owned businesses) need to “pay their fair share” to subsidize the government-dependent class.
B) At a time when the “Obama recovery” is anything but and millions of families are struggling to survive the long winter until Obama and his merry band of socialists are out of office, the Obamas flaunt lifestyle that is wholly inappropriate. If Obama were a true leader, he would at least feign concern for the image he is projecting.
The fact that he does not indicates the obvious: he simply doesn’t care if you approve or not.
