- Is Wikileaks "insurance policy" an open invitation to kill Julian Assange or sht down Wikileaks site?

- THE LESSON REPUBLICANS REFUSE TO LEARN: THE LESSER OF TWO EVILS IS STILL EVIL
Posted: 17 Aug 2013 10:18 PM PDT It seems to me that Wikileaks “insurance policy” – a widely-distributed encrypted treasure trove of documents to be released on his death – might hasten that very event. Imagine enemies of the United States wanting to get their grubby hands on that material might decide to kill Assange for no other purpose than to force the release of the “secret encryption key.” This is not the first time that an “insurance policy” has been released …
Déjà vu … Could this be a ploy to force publications to carry the disclosures or face an Internet release with no profitable bump in traffic … … or, could this be a clever ploy to track those “torrent” people who are interested in piracy or purloined secrets and make them known to the authorities? Bottom line … Technology often has unintended consequences and works in ways that are diametrically opposed to its original intent. -- steve |
HP MOONSHOT COMMERCIAL FALLS SHORT Posted: 17 Aug 2013 05:06 PM PDT Every once in a while you actually listen to a commercial, perhaps sensitized by either ownership or need. As one who is going to be replacing two systems in the near future, I listened to the HP commercial with interest.
While the commercial is only intended to raise your consciousness of the product and maybe pique your interest, I couldn't help but think of what the commercial didn’t say … Great! It’s smaller, uses less energy, and is cheaper … than what? There is no comparison – and even if there was one, I can’t help but think about how hardware and software vendors cherry-pick benchmarks and pre-tune systems to run faster than the competition. What it doesn’t say … Is this a single computer or a line of computers with scalable capabilities? Nothing about processing through-put and speed which is critical in an enterprise server. But most of all, there is nothing about reliability! The key factor when purchasing enterprise gear. Bottom line … Given the past missteps of HP and the superficial nature of the advertisement, I do not know if I will even look at HP’s Moonshot. THE LESSON REPUBLICANS REFUSE TO LEARN: THE LESSER OF TWO EVILS IS STILL EVIL Posted: 17 Aug 2013 04:48 PM PDT When I am presented with the current thinking of political pundits like Karl Rove, Dick Morris, and James Carville, I am reminded that they package politicians … complete with opinions and spin-tested lines. Putting forth their political ideology which is neither left, nor right, but self-serving. Thus it is with the talking heads and other pundits labeled as political strategists. For what are they selling except themselves as knowledgeable prognosticators of the future – much like fortune tellers who know that it is not happiness that drives you to seek their counsel. So to all the socialist/communists on the left and the conservatives on the right, I say you are all deeply flawed – pushing your own brand of bullshit in order to gain or maintain political power. Pretending your selfish and self-serving ass is somehow serving our country and humanity. When we can see the results of your past – all pointing to more of the same. I think I will wait until I find a more perfect candidate, not some telegenic, well-spoken yahoo being shoved down my throat with the admonition, vote for me because I am the lesser of the two evils. No you are not the lesser of two evils – you are evil and therefore not worthy of my vote. So until that rare candidate appears, the one who speaks with pride about his country, I think I will pass on giving you my money, time, and effort. As far as I am concerned, all Republicans appear to me to be John McCain, Lindsey Graham, Marco Rubio, Chris Christie and other assorted politicians from the corrupt and complacent side of the party. I forgot who said it, and too tired to research it, but when a democrat faces a moderate republican – the democrat always wins. If you believe this not to be the case, consider the true background, education, and attitudes of George Bush (43) and John Kerry. They are closer together on one side – Northeastern liberal elites – than they are to the people they purport to serve. Both steeped in self-serving crony capitalism. -- steve |
