State Priorities
TAKE ACTION:  Write to the Florida Senate Select Committee and Governor:
  • Declare a State of Emergency to send excess water into the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA)
  • Finish the U.S. 153,200 acre Sugar Land Purchase under the three-year option that expires this October (next month).
  • Encourage Governor Scott to Pursue RESTORE Act funding for C43 and Tamiami Trail bridging.
  • Make Planned Water Projects Operational by next year’s rainy season.
TAKE ACTION:  Write to the Florida Senate Select Committee and SFWMD Governing Board:
  • Revise SFWMD Operational Protocols.  An immediate solution is for the  District and COE to change the timing and increase storage in the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes and watershed.  An additional 1 million acre feet of storage is needed north of Lake O.
  • Augment SFWMD Monitoring of Biological Impacts to Estuaries Now, including oysters, sea grasses and species diversity from the large releases and redefine the estuary boundaries to accommodate the enlarged geographic range during releases.
    Federal Priorities
TAKE ACTION: Write to U.S. Representatives Trey Radel, Tom Rooney  and at a minimum the 6 Florida members of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.  If you reside in another state please contact your State Representatives asking for their support:
    • Press the U.S. House to Support and Fund the 2013 Water Resources Development Act (WRDA)
    • Fast-Track Approval and Funding of the Central Everglades Planning Project (CEPP)
    • Fund the Bridging of Tamiami Trail (U.S. 41) through the Everglades.  Florida’s Governor has stepped up with $90 million in funding for this critical project, halving the federal government's cost.  They must step up and fund their half now!
